Job Summary and Qualifications The Director of Pharmacy plans, organizes, controls, and supervises activities in hospital pharmacy according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and State and Federal laws. Recommends innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy to Administration and carries out mutually agreed upon programs. What you will do in this role includes: Establish quality improvement, fiscal, productivity, and patient satisfaction goals and objectives in conjunction with upper management. Supervise the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in‑service education of hospital personnel, consultation with patients, hospital staff, and medical staff. Actively assist staff pharmacists in the discharge of routine duties as necessary. Direct the activities of and provide professional and technical guidance to pharmacy personnel. Exercise professional judgment in imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals. Communicate the Hospital and Mission and Philosophy to department employees and integrate with departmental operations. Provide leadership to new program development, implementation and evaluation and act as a consultant in areas of expertise. Anticipate the needs and issues of customers/suppliers in order to ensure effective departmental operations and to meet their needs. Promote teamwork among staff, peers, physicians, and others. Promote multi‑disciplinary team work in order to meet the organization’s goals and objectives. Be responsible for department planning, goals, and objectives that are consistent with the Hospital and Pharmacy Shared Services. Provide leadership to the department through effective organization, direction of activities, and appropriate delegation of functions. Maintain appropriate controls of department functions to ensure smooth, effective operations. Continuously evaluate the quality of services and/or products provided to the department’s customers. Monitor and assist with the collection, documentation, and reporting of quality assessment and improvement data. Ensure that the department is in compliance with JCAHO requirements, Drug Enforcement Administration, State Board of Pharmacy, hospital policies and procedures, and other Federal and State regulations. Ensure that the department meets all applicable safety and security practices, infection control policies, fire and safety and disaster planning. Be responsible for development and implementation of Department‑specific policy and procedures. Establish job performance standards, functions, responsibilities and the qualifications of department employees. Be responsible for the effective recruitment, selection, orientation, promotion, evaluation, retention and termination of department employees. Determine the competence of department employees. Routinely assess departmental education needs and provide appropriate learning experiences, e.g., on‑job training, workshops, in‑services, etc. Actively participate in Hospital committees, task forces, projects, and provide leadership as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.” What Qualifications you will need: B.S. or PharmD from an ACPE‑accredited School of Pharmacy (Required). Five years of hospital leadership experience and/or PGY2 leadership residency completion (preferred). Knowledgeable and proficient in the legal responsibilities of the pharmacist to the facility and all state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy services (Required). Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics as well as the use and application of new medications and technology (Required). Current pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy (Required). Current consultant pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy if applicable (Applicable for FL only) (Required).
