Job Title: Safety Advisor
Job Description
The Safety Advisor promotes a strong safety culture on large commercial and industrial construction sites by monitoring field activities, coaching workers and supervisors, and ensuring adherence to safety rules and procedures. This role builds relationships with field teams, conducts site observations, documents safety findings, and supports daily administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and safety reporting.
Responsibilities
- Monitor construction activities on large commercial and industrial job sites to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and potential hazards.
- Build strong working relationships with foremen, field coordinators, and craft workers to encourage open communication about safety.
- Have direct and honest conversations with workers and supervisors when safety issues arise, addressing concerns in a professional and constructive manner.
- Warn and correct individuals who are not wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) or not following basic safety rules and site policies.
- Remind and verify that workers tie off properly while on lifts or working at heights, and reinforce fall protection requirements.
- Coach and guide workers and leaders on safe work practices, risk management, and adherence to health and safety procedures.
- Lead by example on site by consistently following all safety rules and demonstrating a proactive safety mindset.
- Record daily attendance in the morning and check workers out at the end of the shift, ensuring accurate headcounts and documentation.
- Complete and maintain various safety and site-related documentation, including basic write-ups, reports, and forms.
- Use an iPad, email, and other digital tools to complete safety reports, communicate with project teams, and maintain electronic records.
- Support field coordination activities by assisting with communication between construction crews and administration regarding safety matters.
- Participate in or support incident reporting, near-miss documentation, and follow-up actions as required.
- Assist in implementing risk management strategies on site, including identifying risks and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate with construction administration and coordination staff to ensure safety requirements are integrated into daily operations.
- Encourage a positive safety culture by recognizing safe behavior and consistently reinforcing expectations.
- Provide informal training and guidance to workers new to the site or trade on basic safety rules and commercial job site requirements.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in field construction, field administration, field coordination, safety, or a related construction role.
- 3+ years in a safety role, supervisor role, or lead role is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience in commercial construction environments, such as framing, drywall, or painting, with knowledge of trade practices and safety rules on commercial job sites.
- Strong working knowledge of health and safety practices, OSHA standards, and construction safety requirements.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to identify safety issues, hazards, and non-compliance in a construction setting and take appropriate corrective action.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, correct, and influence others on safety behaviors.
- Experience working as a safety advisor, field coordinator, construction administrator, or construction coordinator.
- Proficiency using an iPad and email to complete forms, reports, and basic documentation.
- Ability to complete clear, concise written documentation and basic safety write-ups.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional relationships with foremen and field teams.
- Comfort having tough conversations and addressing non-compliance in a respectful but firm manner.
- Risk management mindset with the ability to recognize and mitigate potential hazards.
- Preferably bilingual to support communication with a diverse workforce.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in framing, drywall, or painting trades, especially with framing/drywall construction companies.
- Experience in field construction or trade work and an interest in moving into a management or dedicated safety role.
- Experience in construction administration or coordination roles supporting large commercial or industrial projects.
- Previous responsibility for attendance tracking, headcounts, or field documentation.
- Ability to adapt to changing site conditions and multiple projects within large job sites.
- Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, reports, and daily safety records.
Why Work Here?
You will join a team that takes safety seriously and views it as a core part of project success, not just a compliance requirement. The organization values individuals who bring field experience and supports their growth into leadership and safety-focused careers. You can expect a collaborative environment where your input on safety matters is heard and respected, and where you can make a visible impact on the well-being of workers on large, complex projects. The role offers exposure to major commercial and industrial job sites, providing opportunities to expand your experience, develop your leadership skills, and progress your career in construction safety.
Work Environment
The role is based on large commercial and industrial job sites, working primarily on the first shift. You will spend most of your time in the field, moving throughout active construction areas, interacting with foremen, coordinators, and craft workers. The work environment includes typical construction site conditions such as noise, dust, varying weather, and the need to navigate around equipment, lifts, and scaffolding. You will regularly use an iPad and email for documentation and communication, and you will work closely with field coordination and construction administration teams. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times in accordance with site and safety policies.
