This expansion has created a unique opportunity: we are hiring our first-ever Rankings, Awards & Media Relations Coordinator to shape and own a recognition program from the ground up. The Coordinator will join the Marketing & Strategy department in any of the following offices: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Minneapolis, or Washington, D.C. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Public Relations, this role serves as the central point of contact for all recognition initiatives—including awards, surveys, league tables, and legal directory submissions such as Chambers and Legal 500—to enhance the firm’s visibility and market recognition. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented communicator who thrives on managing multiple deadlines, partnering with attorneys and business development teams, and driving measurable results. As a member of the Marketing & Strategy team, the Coordinator helps identify, evaluate, and pursue award opportunities firmwide. The position requires a blend of strategic thinking, project management, and strong writing and communications skills. Partnering closely with attorneys and marketing colleagues, the Coordinator drafts and submits high-impact entries, develops a calendar to meet submission deadlines, manages timelines and tracking, coordinates researcher interviews, and helps amplify results across internal and external channels to enhance Thompson Hine’s reputation. The Coordinator will be joining a high-performing team with low turnover. Additional responsibilities include maintaining website recognition items (e.g., press releases) and supporting social media promotion; assessing the viability of new surveys; and managing special projects as assigned. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Manages the strategy and execution of the firm’s awards, surveys, and directory submissions, advising attorneys and marketing professionals on recognition strategy, priorities, and positioning. Owns the firm’s Directories & Rankings calendar and tracking process, managing opportunities, deadlines, submission status, and results to ensure the firm is consistently well positioned in key legal and business publications. Researches and evaluates new and existing awards, surveys, directories, and other recognition opportunities; assesses strategic value and fit; and recommends participation based on firm, practice, and business development objectives. Conducts market and competitive research on the directories and awards landscape, analyzing the firm’s performance relative to peer firms and identifying trends, gaps, and opportunities to strengthen rankings and recognition. Designs, writes, and edits compelling submissions, including matter narratives, practice descriptions, and other content that effectively communicates firm and attorney achievements, capabilities, and differentiators. Manages the submission process from initial planning through publication of results, coordinating attorney and stakeholder input, approvals, external consultants, deadlines, and other requirements. Builds and maintains relationships with directory editors, researchers, publication contacts, and other key stakeholders to remain current on methodologies, editorial priorities, submission guidelines, and changes in the recognition landscape. Coordinates researcher interviews with firm lawyers, including scheduling, development of interview preparation materials, and attorney preparation as appropriate. Maintains the firm’s submissions and rankings database and leverages historical and competitive data to evaluate performance, identify trends, and inform future strategy. Analyzes rankings and recognition results and provides leadership, practice groups, and marketing colleagues with clear insights and actionable recommendations for improving future performance. Serves as a subject matter resource on directory and ranking methodologies, advising attorneys and colleagues on factors that influence ranking movement and the firm’s positioning relative to competitors in key markets and practice areas. Ensures lawyer, practice, and firm directory profiles are accurate, current, and strategically positioned, and leverages directory subscription resources, competitive intelligence, and client feedback to support recognition and broader marketing initiatives. Develops internal and external communications announcing rankings and awards and works with marketing colleagues to incorporate significant recognition into firm collateral, digital content, and other communications. Drives continuous improvement of submission processes, tracking systems, templates, resources, and documentation to increase efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness across the firm. 3–5 years of relevant law firm marketing or communications experience, preferably with responsibility for rankings, directories, surveys, and award submissions. Prior experience in a large law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of major legal directories, rankings, and awards, such as Chambers, The Legal 500, The American Lawyer, Law360, Benchmark Litigation, and Financial Times Innovative Lawyers. Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to develop clear, persuasive, and compelling submission content. Exceptional organizational, research, and project management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the professionalism, judgment, and discretion necessary to work effectively with attorneys, firm leadership, colleagues, publishers, researchers, consultants, and external vendors. Proactive, resourceful, and results-oriented, with the ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, solve problems, and work independently with appropriate guidance. Collaborative and dependable team player committed to delivering exceptional internal client service and building productive working relationships across the firm. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and work extended hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The estimated salary ranges for these locations are the following: Cleveland is $67,500 to $76,000, Chicago is $72,000 to $81,000 and Washington, D.C. is $77,500 to $87,250.
