Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Technician installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on a wide variety of manufacturing equipment and utility systems in a regulated environment. This role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and control systems skills, along with the ability to thrive in a startup setting by helping to develop, optimize, and scale new processes in a compliant and safety-focused manner.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative and predictive maintenance on a wide variety of manufacturing equipment and utility systems using strong mechanical, electrical, and PLC skills.
• Work effectively in a startup environment by adapting quickly to change, leading the development and optimization of new processes, and identifying opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support scaling of laboratory processes and method transfers, ensuring sustainability and scalability of procedures as the site grows.
• Participate in and support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, qualification and validation (CQV), as well as media and engineering runs.
• Manage inventory and resources efficiently while troubleshooting unexpected challenges in a dynamic manufacturing setting.
• Participate actively in safety programs, follow all safety procedures, and contribute to the ongoing development of a strong site safety culture.
• Maintain accurate records and complete all required paperwork and data entry in accordance with regulatory and site requirements.
• Develop, improve, and optimize equipment and system maintenance strategies, including predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
• Determine required parts for repairs, submit requisitions, and ensure timely availability of spare parts and consumables.
• Service and maintain primary equipment including bioreactors, fermenters, centrifuges, CIP systems, purified water systems, chemistry control lab systems, neutralization systems, and kill systems.
• Understand and follow site standard operating procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), working fully within these compliance standards.
• Apply demonstrated technical knowledge to analyze problems and determine appropriate corrective and preventative actions with minimal assistance.
• Support and assist other technicians with work tasks as needed and contribute as a reliable, collaborative team member.
• Organize and prioritize multiple assignments effectively, remaining flexible and responsive to changing priorities and operational needs.
• Use hand and power tools safely and competently to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
• Use computer systems for documentation, data entry, and communication, including maintenance-related software and standard office applications.

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3–5 years of experience in electro/mechanical, electronics, refrigeration, or a related applicable field.
• 5+ years of mechanical experience, including hands-on troubleshooting and repair.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience using hand and power tools.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Experience working with PLCs, controls, and basic electronics.
• Ability to perform preventative and predictive maintenance on complex manufacturing equipment and utility systems.
• Experience in a GMP or other regulated facility environment.
• Ability to understand and follow site SOPs and cGMP requirements and work in full compliance with these standards.
• Ability to complete paperwork and data entry accurately in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated knowledge in relevant technical areas, including electro/mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
• Ability to analyze problems and determine appropriate corrective and preventative actions with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Flexibility and responsiveness to changes in priorities, processes, and operational needs.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and willingness to assist other technicians as needed.
• Computer literacy with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook.
• Ability to operate safely in a manufacturing environment and actively participate in safety programs.

• Associate’s degree from an accredited technical or trade school in electro/mechanical, electronics, refrigeration, or a related field is preferred.
• At least 2 years of industrial experience in a relevant technical discipline is preferred for candidates with an associate’s degree.
• Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or another highly regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Familiarity with startup or greenfield facility environments, including supporting new equipment installation, FAT, SAT, and CQV activities.
• Experience servicing bioreactors, fermenters, centrifuges, CIP systems, purified water systems, chemistry control lab systems, neutralization systems, and kill systems.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems for maintenance, inventory, or work order management is preferred.
• Experience with refrigeration systems and related maintenance is beneficial.
• Comfort working with electronics, controls, and PLC-based systems in a production environment.
• General familiarity with Windows-based operating systems.
• Awareness of state-of-the-art technology in the industry and interest in ensuring use of current, effective technologies.
• Demonstrated ownership mentality and desire to contribute to the growth and success of a new large-scale manufacturing site.

This role is based at a new, large-scale manufacturing facility of approximately 640,000 square feet in Lithia Springs, Georgia. The environment is a startup, greenfield site where new biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations are being established and scaled, offering the opportunity to contribute from the early stages of the site’s development. The facility operates under cGMP and other regulatory standards, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work takes place in production and utility areas around complex equipment such as bioreactors, fermenters, centrifuges, CIP systems, purified water systems, and related utility and lab support systems. The role involves regular use of hand and power tools, computer systems, and maintenance-related software. The culture emphasizes teamwork, ownership mentality, and cross-functional collaboration. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Lithia Springs, GA.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $45.00/hr.
