Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in an Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) or a related environmental compliance role.
• Ability to obtain New Mexico Water Sample Technician Levels 1 & 2 certifications within 12 months of hire and maintain them throughout employment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CMMS or similar maintenance management systems.
• Valid New Mexico driver's license .

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Science, Chemistry, Biology , or another related field.
• Experience using industrial pretreatment tracking software, compliance databases, or similar environmental management systems.

Position Overview

The Industrial Technician supports the Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) by performing technical, environmental, and regulatory compliance activities. This role involves inspecting industrial and commercial facilities, collecting wastewater samples, maintaining compliance records, and helping ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

The successful candidate will help protect public health, wastewater infrastructure, and environmental quality through inspections, monitoring, documentation, and compliance support.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Environmental Compliance Manager with maintaining compliance records, monitoring activities, and regulatory reporting.
• Perform grease trap, sand trap, and FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) inspections, while maintaining hauling manifests and required documentation.
• Maintain communication with industrial users and help keep current records of permitted facilities.
• Conduct and document inspections of industrial and commercial facilities.
• Schedule, coordinate, and perform wastewater sampling for compliance and surcharge monitoring.
• Collect environmental water samples while maintaining proper chain-of-custody documentation and coordinating delivery to certified laboratories.
• Assist with interpreting pretreatment regulations and identifying regulatory requirements for industrial users and the Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW).
• Support the preparation, issuance, and maintenance of industrial discharge permits.
• Review industrial process changes that could impact wastewater discharge quality.
• Assist with reviewing monitoring data and determining compliance status.
• Support surcharge calculations for high-strength wastewater discharges, when applicable.
• Help develop and maintain local pretreatment regulations, enforcement response plans, and technically based local limits.
• Provide technical assistance regarding environmental compliance and appropriate enforcement actions.
• Assist wastewater operations personnel in identifying sources of treatment process issues.
• Prepare the Industrial Pretreatment Program Annual Report and other required regulatory documentation.
• Obtain and maintain New Mexico Water Sample Technician Levels 1 & 2 certifications within 12 months of hire.
• Complete Industrial Pretreatment backup training within the first 3 months of employment.
• Attend required company training related to environmental compliance and the Industrial Pretreatment Program.
• Perform additional duties as assigned in support of wastewater treatment and environmental compliance operations.
