Reading Interventionist
$60 per hourCrossover for Work
$120,000/year salary, paid weekly, including health, dental, and vision benefits starting day one Full-time on-site position at one Alpha location: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available) 40 hours per week, 100% classroom-based with K-3 students Your structured-literacy certification — Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction — has opened doors to every K-3 reading position you've pursued. In most cases, it also defined the limits: you delivered someone else's curriculum and documented results. At Alpha, the credential is where you begin. If that difference resonates with you, continue reading. Alpha has dismantled conventional instruction. Students work through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. There are no lectures, no textbooks, no pacing guides. Your expertise occupies the space where human intervention is irreplaceable. You create 20-minute small-group workshops based on real-time application data; sessions are deliberately brief, because targeted instruction outperforms duration. You also facilitate motivation sessions designed to guide 100% of your students toward their weekly app objectives using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification). When you catch a student's miscue during a session, you identify the phonemic deficit and have the next day's workshop redesigned before you leave. That is the expectation. Families choosing these campuses have selected Alpha for results, not simply enrollment. Parents receive weekly data reflecting their child's reading development, and they express opinions. You will field specific questions about individual student progress, and vague responses like "they're doing fine" will not suffice. You will reference the running record, identify the phonemic gap, and describe your intervention. That level of accountability should energize you, not weigh you down. Your initial months focus on establishing credibility. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey results (target 90%+) provide direct feedback. Once you demonstrate success, your influence expands beyond your classroom: strategies that succeed with your students become models for other Alpha campuses, and your diagnostic precision influences how reading is delivered as Alpha scales. Your impact extends well beyond your immediate environment. Before an offer is extended, you will submit a short video presenting an engaging story for young children, and you will spend a full day on campus teaching K-3 students directly. Low energy with children will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. This is intentional. What You Will Be Doing Creating small-group K-3 reading workshops using live adaptive-app data, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent) Leading daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of your students toward their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification) Analyzing AI-generated performance data (fluency curves, decoding accuracy, comprehension signal) to modify instruction mid-day, not only during planning time Conducting running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to generate progress visible in weekly campus data reviews Serving as the energetic, approachable adult your K-3 students are excited to see each day What You Won’t Be Doing Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing guide; you create lessons from student data Delivering lectures to a full classroom; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you are in the classroom with students every day Managing a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test prep. Your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-driven small groups Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic reports; student progress is tracked through app data and your running records, not special-education documentation Reading Interventionist Key Responsibilities Generate measurable K-3 reading improvement across phonics, fluency, and comprehension within a campus environment where outcomes are assessed weekly. Basic Requirements Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction Bachelor's degree in any field, plus 2+ years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the last 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy Proven ability to create your own reading lessons and clearly explain what you teach and how, without depending on a published program Willingness to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available) Willingness to instruct all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning tools into daily instruction as those tools develop Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship Nice-to-have Requirements Direct experience with AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data analysis Documented history of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level advancement) you can cite with specific numbers Familiarity with diagnostic reading assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated groups Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent, elite charter, premium tutoring with families who monitor outcomes closely) Background in performance, youth sports coaching, or otherwise engaging a K-3 audience beyond the reading classroom About Alpha Join the team building school around student growth Alpha reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. Roles with real student impact: Alpha hires teachers (guides), operators, admissions experts, school & curriculum leaders, and remote team members. A culture built for builders: Alpha is fast-moving, ambitious, and student focused. It’s for people who want to improve the system, not maintain it. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record.
