WilliamsRDM is looking for a Production Planner to be responsible for the day-to-day tactical production control planning, scheduling, and monitoring of production jobs to achieve goals and objectives for delivery dates. Develops and maintains the production schedule, drives the timely flow of material to the floor, and identifies and resolves schedule risks before they affect customer delivery dates. Works closely with the Purchasing, Inventory, Shipping/Receiving, Operations, Quality, and Contracts functions. Reports to the Director of Operations. This position has no direct reports. Job Responsibilities Review new contracts and customer orders to evaluate delivery schedule requirements.Communicate any concerns to contracts. Create, release, and schedule production jobs for customer orders Create and schedule jobs for customer RMAs and returned material as they are received Regularly run the MRP tool, validate results, and create & schedule lower level jobs as needed. Run reports that show materials that will be arriving after they are needed and have purchasing expedite them with the supplier.If the late material will cause a customer contract date to be missed, communicate that to contracts. Maintain and publish the production schedule, balancing job demand against available labor, equipment, and work center capacity Adjust existing jobs as dictated by make/buy decisions Combine or split jobs where doing so improves material utilization, shop flow, or delivery performance Investigate and follow-up on potential schedule delays or bottlenecks.Recommend and implement actions to correct or prevent potential delays. Coordinate with the Inventory and Shipping/Receiving functions to ensure on-time assembly kitting goals are met and finished product ships to schedule Provide regular reporting on schedule status, past-due and at-risk jobs, open shortages, and on-time delivery performance Communicate with Operations and Quality on requirements, schedule, status, and to ensure resource availability and on-time delivery Reschedule jobs only when the associated customer contract date changes.Late material is not cause to move a job start date; expedite the material where possible and plan to recover the lost time in the remaining operations once it arrives. When it becomes clear that a customer contract date cannot be met, establish a projected new ship date and notify contracts so that contract relief can be requested from the customer.Reschedule all associated jobs only once the customer moves the contract date. Ensure that released engineering changes are acted upon as needed with respect to production planning and purchasing Evaluate and maintain inventory levels for low mix, high volume commercial product line based on production rates and goals. Maintain stock levels that consider available warehouse space and cash flow. Work with suppliers to minimize delivery costs. Consistently follow all quality and company procedures and regulations Follow and support compliance with AS9100 processes applicable to production planning Perform root cause analysis as determined by CARs Continuously pursue process or continuous improvement opportunities Consistently communicate with other stakeholders Maintain a high level of ERP system proficiency to manage and optimize production planning and scheduling Education and Training Degree in operations-related field, or substitute relevant experience ASCM (formerly known as APICS) CPIM or related certification a plus Must pass ATF background check. Skills & Experience At least five years of total manufacturing experience with a minimum of two years of directly related experience in production planning/scheduling Manufacturing experience in machining and electro/mechanical assembly; preferably in lean manufacturing environment Working knowledge of purchasing, inventory, and shipping/receiving processes and how they affect production schedules Experience using ERP and MRP software, ideally ECi M1 ERP system Demonstrated ability to drive schedule commitments across departments without direct authority Preferred Experience Experience in defense industry or with US government/military contract manufacturing General knowledge of complying with AS9100 and/or ISO standards and manufacturing quality systems Planning experience in a low-volume, high-mix, build-to-order environment Ability To Communicate frequently, clearly, and effectively at all levels, in writing and verbally Be accountable for meeting deadlines, and hold co-workers accountable for same Establish and maintain cooperative and effective interpersonal working relationships with others, including the ability to effectively lead the resolution of issues or conflicts Analyze data and translate it into meaningful information, recommendations, and action Use a computer including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.) and ERP/MRP Handle multiple projects/tasks effectively in a fast-paced, often high-pressure environment Read and understand engineering drawings, bills of materials and product/process specifications Organize work for self and coordinate work across departments.
