DESCRIPTION The Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all. We conduct research and instruction in public health disciplines such as Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Climate & Environmental Health, Community Health Services & Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Behavior, Health Equity & Justice, Health Policy, Public Mental Health & Substance Use, and Technology & Precision Health, totaling ~$255M in grants and contracts and housing five research service cores. We engage in research and teaching collaborations across the University and the community at-large. Partnerships with the community and with health agencies are fundamental to the School. The goals of the institute include: 1) Creating and promoting public health innovations to advance equity, justice, and wellbeing for all 2) Cultivating new generations of diverse public health professionals 3) Advancing scientific discovery, dissemination, and implementation 4) Collaborating with diverse partners to develop community-led health solutions The position is for a Native American Community Coordinator who will serve as the key liaison between the project team and Native American partners from the Inland Empire, which comprises of Riverside and San Bernardino County. This region is home to thirteen recognized federal Native American Tribes, including, Cahuilla, Serrano, Tongva, Luiseno, Morongo, Pechanga, Twenty-Nine Palms, Chemehuevi and Fort Mojave. The role involves building and maintaining collaborative relationships with community leaders, organizations, and individuals, understanding community needs, and assisting in the development of culturally sensitive programs and services. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about cultural heritages of this region and committed to fostering collaboration and mutual respect. The Community Coordinator will learn to gather and assemble feedback from the Native American community on public health issues related to traffic safety for Native American Youth. This role involves engaging with community members to understand their concerns, identify specific challenges, and collect data on potential solutions. The program will use this feedback to inform and guide the development of targeted programs and evaluations that are culturally relevant and effective, ensuring that the community concerns and insights are integrated into the program's framework. Additional responsibilities will include supporting the scheduling and organization of Consortium meetings between UCSD staff and community partners, ensuring these meetings are culturally appropriate and facilitate meaningful dialogue. The coordinator will support the Program Manager in arranging and organizing focus groups and will assist in facilitating the filming of participant testimonials. They will help gather feedback, assist in evaluating program content, identify areas for improvement, and learn to document and share program methodology and outcomes. The coordinator will participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, share preliminary insights from community interactions, and contribute to strategic planning efforts. Outreach to community consortium partners, education on traffic safety, dissemination of the traffic safety training, and recruitment of peer trainers are among the tasks expected from the coordinator. The coordinator will also liaise with program staff and support the Program Manager to review invoices, and submit claims regarding expenses and travel. The coordinator will learn to be accountable for preparing, editing, and modifying diverse documents, e.g., progress reports, proposals, training and outreach tracker etc. The coordinator will actively participate in various day-to-day operations as needed and assist with addressing complex and sensitive issues. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Four (4) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area. Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs. Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Basic program and project management skills. Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
