$57.85k - $104.58kLeidos
Description Do you love the process of taking a raw concept and turning it into a working reality? Leidos is looking for a smart, versatile Engineering Technician to join our Maritime Systems Division in San Diego. We operate in a fast‑paced, high‑momentum environment where we rapid‑prototype a variety of cutting‑edge ocean systems. We don't just plan—we build, test, and iterate quickly. You will join a medium‑sized team, meaning you'll have the space to make your mark and the visibility to see your contributions matter, all while collaborating closely with other multidiscipline experts. You will be an integral part of the development lifecycle: identifying the problem, developing the concept, supporting iterative design and testing in the lab and field, and ultimately helping deliver the final product demonstration to the customer. If you enjoy the thrill of the build and are ready to contribute to solving some of the most complex challenges in maritime systems, this is the opportunity for you. Responsibilities Mechanical and Electrical Fabrication Wire Harnessing: Fabricate complex wire harnesses, utilizing splicing, crimping, and soldering techniques for Molex and various other connectors and cable assemblies. PCB Assembly: Install surface‑mount (SMT) and through‑hole components on multi‑layer printed circuit boards using approved soldering standards. Technical Literacy: Interpret and execute engineering assembly drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), manufacturing procedures, and detailed work instructions. Mechanical Assembly: Utilize a wide range of hand and power tools (e.g., torque wrenches, drills, precision tools) to integrate mechanical components into larger system assemblies. Problem Solving: Independently troubleshoot and resolve assembly issues to ensure project momentum. Quality Documentation: Maintain rigorous documentation standards by accurately completing serial number records, traveler logs, and work orders. Testing and Data Collection System Validation: Execute comprehensive electrical testing and data collection for custom assemblies, utilizing a blend of proprietary in‑house procedures and COTS (Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf) equipment. Technical Diagnostics: Leverage a diverse suite of diagnostic tools—including oscilloscopes, signal/network analyzers, and precision meters—to validate system performance and identify anomalies. Data Analysis & Reporting: Manage the digital capture of test results via Microsoft Office, ensuring that raw data is organized into clear, actionable technical records. Assembly Encapsulation Materials Expertise: Apply various encapsulation materials—including urethanes, silicones, and epoxies—in strict accordance with required procedures and industry best practices. Casting Preparation: Prepare components for casting through precision sanding, painting, and fixturing to ensure optimal adhesion and alignment. Mold Fabrication: Perform the end‑to‑end mold creation process, including material mixing, vacuum degassing, pouring, and post‑processing. Contamination Control: Perform precision cleaning of electrical and mechanical assembly parts using isopropyl alcohol and other approved solvents per established procedures. Surface Engineering: Execute application‑specific surface preparation using approved hand‑sanding techniques to ensure optimal bonding and finish. Lab & Equipment Maintenance Workspace Stewardship: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. Equipment Readiness: Oversee the upkeep of lab equipment and assembly fixtures, performing routine repairs and collaborating with project personnel to ensure all tools remain in peak working condition. Qualifications Education & Experience High School diploma or equivalent with at least 4 years of related technical experience. Proven hands‑on experience in electrical and mechanical assembly, including precision soldering and the use of basic electrical test and measurement equipment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, and ASME Y14 engineering drawings. Experience operating a variety of machine shop and woodworking tools (e.g., grinders, routers, sanders, band saws, and sandblasters). Security & Compliance Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (interim clearance required for start). Technical Competencies Diagnostic Tool Proficiency: Experience operating lab test equipment and diagnostic tools, including oscilloscopes, signal/network analyzers, and precision meters. Surface Preparation: Experience in the surface preparation and treatment of mechanical components (e.g., aluminum, brass) in accordance with specific production instructions. Software: Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent productivity software. Professional Skills & Physical Requirements Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to seek clarity and guidance when navigating complex tasks. Work Ethic: Self‑motivated and detail‑oriented with a proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Physical Ability: Ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace; physical mobility to navigate lab, office, and warehouse environments—including frequent movement around piers, docks, and facility spaces—with the ability to stoop, kneel, reach for extended periods, and transport objects weighing up to 50 lbs across the facility. Manual Dexterity: Constant use of hands and fingers to precisely operate machinery, tools, and computer equipment. Environmental Adaptability: Ability to climb ladders up to 20 ft and work comfortably in loud production environments, various temperatures, and inclement weather. This includes a willingness to work aboard marine vessels of various sizes, occasionally on an overnight basis. Preferred Qualifications Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related field; however, additional relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Specialized Certification: United States Navy Miniature/Microminiature Module Test and Repair (2M/MTR) Certification. Industry Standards: Current or prior certification in the following IPC standards, or equivalent industry‑recognised certifications in electronics assembly and workmanship: IPC J‑STD‑001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies) IPC‑A‑610 (Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies) IPC‑WHMA‑A‑620 (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) Pay Range Pay Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00 Benefits Competitive compensation, Health and Wellness programs, Income Protection, Paid Leave, and Retirement plans.
