BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST III, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

Position Technical Advisor to the Chief Deputy Director, Business Taxes Specialist III (Board of Equalization) – Salary: $9,751.00 – $11,625.00 per month, at the Sacramento Headquarters Office located in the May Lee State Office Complex. Job Overview Under the general supervision of the Chief Deputy Director, the Business Taxes Specialist III serves as the highest‑level technical resource on Business Tax and Fee policy issues. Responsibilities include analyzing legislation, evaluating and developing tax policies and procedures, addressing unprecedented tax issues, crafting industry‑specific tax policy, and overseeing policy/procedure development for precedent‑setting matters. The specialist may handle politically sensitive or confidential issues, coordinate enterprise agency‑wide projects and strategic initiatives, track assignments, and serve as liaison on behalf of the Chief Deputy Director. Responsibilities Analyze legislative proposals and assess their impact on business taxes and fees. Develop and refine tax policies and procedures to address emerging and industry‑specific tax issues. Oversee the creation and implementation of policy and procedural guidelines for precedent‑setting tax matters. Coordinate and manage enterprise‑wide projects and strategic initiatives related to business taxes. Track assignments and follow‑ups, ensuring timely completion of tasks and reporting to the Chief Deputy Director. Act as a liaison between the Chief Deputy Director, internal stakeholders, and external partners. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates must meet the technical and professional requirements outlined in the Business Taxes Specialist III, Board of Equalization Class Specification. Typical qualifications include experience in tax policy analysis, strong knowledge of business tax and fee administration, and the ability to handle confidential, high‑profile issues. Preferred Qualifications Experience in policy development for specialized industries, proven project management skills, and a track record of leading complex, high‑priority assignments are preferred. Working Conditions Position may be located in a high‑rise office building. Standard office environment. Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and telephone. Required to report to the office at least a minimum number of days per week if telework or hybrid schedule is selected.
