Clinical Care Technician (40 hrs/week) - Periop/PACU

Schedule This position features a varying schedule of weekday shifts based on unit need, totaling 40 hours per week. The Periop/PACU is open Monday through Friday. Job Profile Summary This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. It includes basic care services for patients without an RN or LPN license, working under the direction of physicians, mid‑level practitioners, and, in some units, registered nurses. The Clinical Technologist role brings specialized knowledge obtained through vocational education, training, and experience, primarily for patient care and scientific/laboratory work. The position requires basic knowledge of procedures and tools via work experience and vocational or technical education, working under moderate supervision to resolve routine problems. Job Overview The Clinical Care Technician works under the supervision of a professional nurse and collaborates to meet patient needs within the scope of the role. Responsibilities include assisting in direct patient care, providing environmental support, facilitating patient safety on the designated unit and other units as needed, and maintaining competencies in role‑specific skills. The technician supports a patient‑ and family‑centered model of care. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Preferred Qualifications Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA). Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program. One year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT). Acute care experience. Duties and Responsibilities Assists the professional registered nurse in the functional care of patients, ensuring efficient and patient‑centered care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population. Performs delegated tasks and communicates all findings and concerns to the professional nurse. Provides or assists patients with activities of daily living in a safe, efficient and respectful manner. Assists with patient care procedures as directed by the nurse, using proper body mechanics and ensuring patient dignity. Greets patients, families, visitors and other staff according to service standards. Responds to patient and family requests promptly, seeking nurse supervision as needed. Collects, records, and communicates the patient’s clinical data to the assigned nurse in a timely manner. Prepares rooms for admission, transfer, and discharge, ensuring standardized equipment is ready for use. Transports or accompanies patients to other areas of the hospital efficiently and safely, acting as a sitter as requested by the nurse. Provides comfort measures such as positioning, changing linen, and back rubs to patients. Promotes patient activity by assisting with mobility and range‑of‑motion exercises as assigned. Sets up for procedures as requested by nursing/medical staff. Cleans and discards used equipment and supplies following procedures. Collects specimens and performs specimen testing while maintaining Standard Precautions; prepares specimens for the lab. Maintains care of biomedical equipment, checking par levels and ensuring equipment is in working order; reports malfunctioning equipment to Medical Engineering. Cleans wounds and applies DSD after a wound has been assessed by a nurse. Performs 12‑lead EKG and connects monitoring equipment to patients under the direction of the nurse. Cares for patient belongings and completes a belongings list. Primers intravenous tubing with a solution containing no medication. Performs and documents patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as requested by the nurse. Answers call lights and seeks appropriate personnel or action; performs hourly rounding per established guidelines. Physical Requirements Lifting up to 30–35 pounds and turning patients; prolonged standing and walking; occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing and pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for performing procedures and operating a computer keyboard. Requires ability to see computer screens and reports. Skills & Abilities Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work with detailed, confidential material.
