Coordinates aquatic maintenance and repair of an Olympic-size competition pool and an aquatics center, regulating over 1,000,000 gallons of water, and specializes in skilled maintenance and repair work of aquatic facilities, including water slides, play structures, tower diving, and other amenities. The coordinator maintains chemical balances and related chemical testing and control systems, performs pump repairs, maintains filtration systems, and repairs geothermal heating and cooling systems.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

• Coordinates projects and work activities with other divisions and oversees the efforts of contractors at assigned facilities
• Solicits and evaluates quotes from vendors and assists in bid package preparation for maintenance projects at assigned facilities
• Responds to service requests in a courteous and timely manner and resolves complaints
• Works closely with staff on facility operations; provides guidance and direction to skilled and unskilled personnel as needed
• Assists with preparation of budget estimates for renovation and maintenance projects
Technical
• Maintains safe and proper chemical-controlled aquatic facilities that meet or exceed health department, local, state, and federal standards
• Maintains the geothermal system that feeds into the pumps that are used to heat and cool the pool water while maintaining year-round pool temperatures of 82 degrees
• Maintains pumps and systems with the ability to either install or repair them
• Familiar with all types of filtration systems that include both manual and automated systems, including backwashing
• Requires understanding of the hydraulics of pool systems; maintains proper pool chemistry, including calibrating and adjusting chemical dispensers and controllers, calculates proper flow rates, collects water samples, and adjusts chemicals as needed
• Coordinates operation and maintenance of pumps, filters, pipes, valves, processors, chemical injectors, aerator systems, chlorinators, and motors up to 30 hp
• Troubleshoots unplanned mechanical failures or weather-related issues with before and after testing of water chemistry and adjusts
• Orders chemicals and maintains storage at two aquatic centers; maintains MSDS sheets for all chemicals stored on site
• Examines aquatic facilities and play structures and makes recommendations for preventive maintenance, repairs, and renovations as needed; this includes water slides, diving boards, diving towers, and major pump systems
• Oversees and participates in the repair and maintenance of the pool decks, pool walls, pool floor areas, and conditions of ceramic tiles
• Assists with general repair and maintenance work, including painting, minor plumbing, maintenance of showers, dressing rooms, and restroom facilities
• Maintains required health department records and state slide inspections
• Reviews vendor/contractor invoices for accuracy and maintains records and warranties for repairs, renovations, and services
• Troubleshoots mechanical, filtration, and chemical systems, performing related maintenance, repair, and modifications as needed
• Responsible for ordering supplies, equipment, and materials as required
• Tracks the occurrence of life/safety inspections and ensures that they are performed regularly
• Responds to and instructs staff and oversees fecal accidents and bloodborne pathogen incidents

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in the repair and maintenance of aquatic facilities
• Must possess a Certified Pool Operator License or Aquatic Facility Operator License
• Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Broad knowledge of pool water hydraulics and methods, materials, and tools used in the aquatics maintenance trades; includes motors, pumps, filters, chemical feeders, and related mechanical equipment
• Ability to operate specialty equipment and gauges required for monitoring pool operations; includes chemical test kits, chemical controllers, booster pumps, and automated chemical control systems
• Knowledgeable of hazardous materials and chemicals used in aquatics and maintains MSDS sheets
• Ability to maintain ongoing education requirements pertaining to pool operations with upgrades in technology and changing local, state, and federal standards
• Skilled in one or more building trades (Pool Operations) with reasonable proficiency in other trades such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and facility maintenance
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations to monitor and adjust chemical feeders, flow rates, and temperature regulators
• Ability to accurately estimate labor and material costs for repair, remodeling, and maintenance projects
• Ability to coordinate the efforts of vendors/contractors and team members to ensure that work is carried out in an organized and logical manner
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members and the public
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment: 20% inside a climate-controlled building and 80% outside work, which may include driving.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately one (1) hour per day, standing approximately five (5) hours per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work requires frequent: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds, and on many occasions lifting/carrying objects weighing 50 pounds and over. Also required is the ability to pull, lift, and store pool blankets, reels, lane lines, and starting blocks weighing up to 60 pounds.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Enough to hear normal motor operation, alarms, bells, and chemical controller operations. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone. Seeing: Enough to see and read computer monitor screens, detect color coding, and operate vehicles.
Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Technology: The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and laptop computers, and calculators, as well as associated software. The work also requires proficiency with computer hardware and software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications; internet applications; and database management.
Other Machines: Requires the ability to operate pool vacuums, pressure washers, generators, and hydraulic lifts used in replacing major pumps.
Tools: The work requires proficiency with calibration equipment, large-pump removal equipment, hand tools, and PVC maintenance tools.
