This Structural Engineer role offers a long-term, career-oriented opportunity within a multidisciplinary architectural, engineering, and construction management setting in Northern Virginia. Responsibilities

• Perform full life cycle structural design for building projects using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood, ensuring safe, economical, and code-compliant solutions.

• Conduct structural analysis to determine internal and external forces affecting a structure and select appropriate materials and reinforcements to satisfy performance and safety requirements.

• Prepare and compile complete sets of construction documents from project start through completion, including drawings, details, and specifications.

• Execute drafting and design work directly in support of structural engineering tasks, as the engineering team performs its own drafting without a separate drafting group.

• Design structural steel systems and components for a variety of building types and project conditions.

• Interpret existing construction documents and project requirements to develop accurate structural designs and coordinate with other disciplines.

• Apply civil and structural engineering principles to mission critical facilities, athletic fields, municipal buildings, historic preservation projects, office buildings, parking garages, recreational and community centers, maintenance facilities, and fire stations.

• Use AutoCAD proficiently to produce high-quality structural drawings and documentation.

• Utilize Revit knowledge, when applicable, to support building information modeling and coordination.

• Collaborate with architectural, engineering, and construction management teams to ensure integrated, constructible, and efficient designs.

• Maintain high standards of technical accuracy, quality, and consistency across all structural design and documentation.

• Support continuous improvement of design processes and standards within the structural division.

Essential Skills

• Bachelors degree in Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.

• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in structural engineering.

• Hands-on design experience in structural engineering for building designs using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.

• Proven structural steel design experience for building projects.

• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and design of structural components and construction documents.

• Ability to interpret construction documents accurately and apply them to structural design solutions.

• Ability to compile and produce a complete set of construction documents from project initiation through completion.

• Understanding of structural design principles and civil engineering fundamentals, including analysis of internal and external forces and load-carrying capacity.

• E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) certification.

• Demonstrated capability to perform both engineering design and drafting tasks without reliance on a separate drafting group.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of Revit and experience supporting building information modeling is a strong plus.

• Experience working on a variety of project types such as mission critical facilities, athletic fields, municipal buildings, historic preservation, office buildings, parking garages, recreational and community centers, maintenance facilities, and fire stations.

• Familiarity with commercial building design and construction practices.

This is a Permanent position based out of Herndon, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $115000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
