Residential Specialist

Position Overview Position: Residential Specialist for Men’s Shelter. Salary: Min USD $41,000.00 per year; Max USD $46,998.00 per year. Location: Ralph Avenue, Brooklyn, NY11233. The Residential Specialist will ensure a safe environment and that tenants are adhering to House Rules and program policies. Duties include monitoring surveillance systems, acting as a role model to residents, encouraging program participation, providing necessary support for a variety of resident issues, making hourly observation rounds, documenting incidents in the communication log, writing incident reports for supervisory staff, attending staff meetings, providing frontline crisis intervention, answering phones and routing calls, maintaining the reception area, and performing other duties as requested by a supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct regular scheduled rounds to ensure safety and residents’ well‑being. Enter activity log information and shift notes in a timely and accurate manner. Complete necessary admissions paperwork. Assist in escorting residents to services and activities outside of the facility, such as clinics, income‑maintenance centers, and housing referral. Meet with Shift Supervisor for individual and group supervision. Plan, implement, and/or research self‑care and other social activities for residents; conduct Resident Support groups. Meet with case managers on a regular basis to assist in assigned tasks. Provide initial orientation to the program. Provide administrative support in areas of office coverage, telephone and clerical work, food services. Understand and follow emergency procedures, including fire drills. Perform other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor and Program Director. Attend job‑related trainings and agency meetings as necessary. Provide meal coordination. Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Human Services or a high diploma or GED with 3+ years of social‑service experience. F02 certification and Security license are mandatory; may be obtained within 6 months if hired. Learn and integrate a trauma‑informed, client‑centered approach using an anti‑oppressive lens into your work with the people we serve. Use neutral and non‑judgmental language when responding to the needs and requests of residents. Must have ability to be flexible with schedule as needed. Maintain professional maturity during crisis situations. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of homelessness, substance misuse, and harm reduction, working with displaced communities including those who identify as LGBTQ, HIV/AIDs affected, the elderly, and individuals with mental health and developmental disabilities. Preferred Qualifications & Skills Effective written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with computer‑based programs; typing skills. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. F80 certification. Basic First Aid. Naloxone certification. Valid driver’s license; bilingual communication preferred. Food Handler license preferred.
