Job Title: Assembler Job Description

This role focuses on assembling mechanical attachments and components using hand and power tools in a manufacturing environment that supports first responders. You will follow detailed work instructions, prepare and set up jobs, and ensure all products meet quality and safety standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work on your feet for extended periods, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical attachments, sub-assemblies, and finished goods according to written work instructions and specifications.

• Follow detailed instructions to ensure accurate and consistent assembly of products.

• Utilize hand and power tools, including presses, drill machines, testing fixtures, and assembly fixtures, as designed for assigned work cells.

• Set up and prepare jobs for assembly, including checking part availability on the computer and obtaining parts from inventory.

• Visually inspect parts prior to assembly to identify defects, damage, or inconsistencies.

• Apply materials such as Loctite, grease, epoxy, and other compounds as specified in work instructions.

• Assemble products that require special handling instructions and ensure these requirements are consistently met.

• Thoroughly clean and prepare product surfaces for labeling using appropriate cleaning agents, such as acetone, in accordance with safety and work instructions.

• Apply proper labeling to products, ensuring accuracy, placement, and adherence to standards.

• Rework failed or nonconforming products as necessary, following guidance and established procedures.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area by removing trash, wiping down work surfaces, and keeping floors clean and clear of debris.

• Stand for extended periods (8+ hours) while performing assembly tasks and material handling.

• Lift and move materials and products weighing 50 pounds or more as part of the assembly process.

• Participate in required daily overtime of approximately 2 hours, scheduling this time before or after the regular shift based on preference and business needs.

• Support occasional Saturday work as needed, particularly at month-end, when requested.

• Complete initial training over a period of approximately 1–3 weeks to learn processes, tools, and safety requirements.

• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective measures.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience using hand and power tools in an assembly or similar environment.

• Proven attention to detail to ensure accurate assembly, labeling, and inspection of parts and products.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more safely and repeatedly during the workday.

• Capability to stand for 8 or more hours per shift while performing assembly tasks.

• Experience in assembly, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.

• Familiarity with mechanical assembly processes and working in an assembly production setting.

• Basic computer skills to check part availability and interact with inventory systems.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely and consistently.

• Willingness to work daily overtime of approximately 2 hours and occasional Saturdays when required.

• Reliability and strong work ethic in a structured manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing experience, especially in a mechanical or industrial setting.

• Experience reading and working from blueprints or technical drawings.

• Comfort working with assembly tooling such as presses, drill machines, testing fixtures, and assembly fixtures.

• Experience applying adhesives, sealants, lubricants, or similar materials (e.g., Loctite, grease, epoxy) in an assembly context.

• Background in mechanical assembly or assembly production lines.

• Willingness to complete 1–3 weeks of on-the-job training to learn specific processes and standards.

• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S or similar practices.

• Strong sense of ownership and quality mindset, particularly when working on products used in critical applications for first responders.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clean, well-organized manufacturing facility that produces connections, attachments, and monitors used by first responders and on fire trucks to help remove harmful substances from the air. The environment is not temperature controlled, so it can be warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter, and employees should be comfortable working in varying seasonal conditions. The standard schedule includes a day shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with mandatory overtime of approximately 2 hours each day that can be worked before or after the regular shift based on employee preference. Occasional Saturday work may be requested, particularly toward the end of the month, though it is generally optional unless specifically required. Employees use a variety of hand and power tools, presses, drill machines, testing fixtures, and assembly fixtures as part of their daily tasks. The facility provides free uniforms after conversion, including multiple T-shirts and uniform cleaning services. The dress code allows knee-length shorts, offering flexibility and comfort while maintaining safety and professionalism on the production floor.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valparaiso, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
