Overview
The Medical Assistant (MA) delivers immunizations and vaccine education to the public in accordance with Public Health standard from the Texas Department of State Health and other public organizations. This position will collect and maintain patient information and determine patient needs as well as the needs of the clinic. The Medical Assistant supports the clinic and administrative functions in the immunization's clinic.
Responsibilities
• Greets and receive patients upon arrival, ensuring a welcoming and professional clinic experience
• Delivers a high standard of customer service by responding to patient needs, questions, and concerns with courtesy, empathy and clear communication
• Reviews and interpret patient vaccination records and determine immunization needs based on age, medical history, and clinic guidelines
• Administers immunizations to patients across all age groups in accordance with established protocols
• Collects and documents vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, height, and weight, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort
• Travels in the field to conduct patient home visits, provide health education and deliver vaccines or other clinical services as assigned
• Reviews patient forms for completeness and accuracy, ensuring all required information is properly captured
• Maintains accurate vaccine inventory records and document all patients served following established tracking procedures
• Utilizes HER system to record vaccines administered, update vaccination histories and ensure documentation meets clinical and regulatory standards
• Performs routine maintenance and quality checks on patient records to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with documentation guidelines
• Collects and organize data on patient demographics and clinic services to support reporting, program evaluation and operation needs
• Serves as back-up coordinator for federal vaccine programs, including Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) and the Adult Safety Ned (ASN) program, ensuring full adherence to program requirements and guidelines
• Monitors and documents vaccine storage temperatures daily, ensuring all vaccines remain within required temperature ranges and are handles according to CDC storage and handling standards
• Conducts routine checks to ensure all vaccine storage equipment (refrigerators, freezers, date loggers) remain in proper working condition and meets compliance criteria
• Address routine medical questions from patients and community members, providing accurate information within scope of practice and escalating issues to licensed clinical staff
• Ensures prompt communication, coordination and support during critical solutions
• Stays current on all vaccine and immunization guidance issued by the state and federal authorities, as well as manufacturer-provided updates regarding vaccine indications, storage requirements, and handling procedures
• Develops, implements, and refine internal processed to ensure all clinical staff consistently follow proper vaccine storage, handling and administration protocols in accordance with CDC, DSHS, and manufacturer standards
• Enters disease surveillance date into the designated computerized database, maintain accuracy, confidentiality, and completeness to support ongoing public health monitoring and response efforts
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/ GED
• Six (6) months to one (1) year experience
Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
• Certified Medical Assistant
• CPR/ First Aid
