Description Job Summary : Assistant Professor to serve as a full‑time psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University in the School of Medicine working on clinical research focused on trauma in medical settings, moral injury, suicide, chronic pain and suicide in both EHVP and VA funded studies. We have been conducting clinical research in these areas for many years and recently received three funded grants focused on investigating treatment of PTSD and chronic pain and treatment of PTSD in integrated care. Duties of this position would include work implementing these protocols and as a therapist and assessor on these studies as well as being involved in data analysis and publication. We are members of the Collaborative Family Healthcare Network ( with many ongoing collaborations. As such there are opportunities to collaborate in this research as well. The psychologist will work with the interdisciplinary team of EHVP to provide clinical services, conduct clinical research, and supervise postdoctoral fellows and trainees in the conduct of care and research. EHVP provides clinical services to post‑9/11 veterans and service members at no cost to the patient as part of the Warrior Care Network. Clinical duties include assessment of veterans referred to the EHVP and providing evidence‑based treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, SUD, and TBI. EHVP provides care in an innovative intensive outpatient program (IOP) which draws patients from across the country to receive intensive therapy daily for two weeks. EHVP has many opportunities for clinical research that the applicant could be involved in, including research focused on rTMS, TDCS, biomarkers, psychophysiological paradigms including fear extinction assessed via fear potentiated startle, and a large dataset with a wide array of clinical and self‑report variables and will have access to many opportunities for analysis, publication, and grant writing. Ideal candidates would have training and experience with evidence based therapy. Training and experience with PTSD clinical research would be viewed favorably but is not a requirement, as we will provide this training and ongoing supervision and consultation. The responsibilities for this position will include some or all of the following: academic leadership, teaching, mentoring, research, publications, clinical practice, citizenship, and administrative responsibilities. There are additional position‑specific duties that may change with each academic year through discussions with the Program Director, Dr. Barbara Rothbaum, Department Chair, and/or the School of Medicine Dean. Faculty will be reviewed and evaluated on performance and execution of both general and position‑specific duties. Specific Job Responsibilities May Include: Academic Leadership: Provide leadership and management in supporting the missions and goals of the Department and Service Line in education, research, patient care, and service. Teaching: Provide clinical supervision to psychology and social work trainees and to psychiatric residents; support and facilitate the educational programs of the Department, School of Medicine, and University. Mentoring: Advise students, staff, and junior faculty by spending time and guiding individuals regarding academic, curricular and career matters. Research: Conduct work to create and add to knowledge. Dissemination and peer review are critical to research productivity. Attain and manage funds appropriately to sustain research endeavors. Publications: Publications that may focus on an array of topics of interest to the candidate including psychedelic therapy, PTSD risk and treatment response, translational science, and best practices in the care of veterans. Clinical Practice: Provide excellent and appropriate patient care at all clinical/hospital sites while ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations on patient care and billing. Adhere to clinical practice obligations for revenue generation in the provision of care. Participate in quality improvement endeavors. Citizenship: Serve as a role model for others. Provide academic and professional expertise to serve the Department, profession, community, nation, and the world. Participate on committees for the University, WCN, and Affiliate Institutions. Administrative Responsibilities: Ensure continuing professional development. Complete all administrative requirements in accordance with the needs of the Department and School of Medicine. This may include completing forms and information, compliance paperwork, performance management tools for staff, authoring letters and developing other communication, and completing service assignments. Supporting recruitment efforts. Minimum Qualifications Degree PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology Professional licensure Licensed or license eligible in Georgia Records of accomplishments Experience working with veterans. Experience with patients with PTSD, TBI, SUD, anxiety, and depression Publications Evidence of academic achievement Communication Ability to communicate clearly in English Team Building Experience working within a multidisciplinary care team Desired : Experience in clinical research, exposure therapy, treatment of PTSD and associated comorbidities, and/or working with veterans, interest in clinical research. NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
