Job Overview
We are seeking dedicated individuals for a Peer Recovery Specialist position within our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program. The ACT team provides services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses who have not been able to integrate adequately into the community through less intensive services. This position works with individuals providing rehabilitative services to support the individual’s recovery goals.

Duties

• Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals navigating mental health or substance use challenges, fostering hope and empowerment.
• Responsible for bringing the perspective of an individual who has been the recipient of mental health treatment services to the ACT team
• Assist clients in developing coping strategies through active listening, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention techniques.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to develop person-centered recovery plans tailored to each individual’s needs.
• Facilitate activities in one-on-one sessions aimed at building social skills, self-esteem, and independence.
• Document client interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
• Support clients during crisis situations by implementing crisis management protocols and de-escalation strategies.
• Advocate for clients’ needs within the broader community network, connecting them with appropriate resources and services.
• Provides services in the community as well as in the individual’s home.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Lived experience with mental health recovery or substance use recovery, demonstrating resilience and insight that inform peer support work.
• At least two years of psychiatric stability and/or sobriety.
• Ability to positively interact with persons with mental illness, substance use disorders and developmental disabilities, their family members, agency staff and community members.
• Prior experience in behavioral health, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, or social work is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols essential for supporting clients in distress.
• Familiarity with motivational interviewing methods to facilitate client engagement and behavior change.
• Ability to operate electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently for documentation purposes.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor, motivate, and build trust with diverse populations.
• Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist or equivalent credential is required.
