Peer Recovery Specialist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages a caseload of clients (and families where indicated), providing peer supportive services Participates in treatment team meetings to enlist existing supports in determining and meeting service objectives and to identify additional resources and supports Participates in preparation of service plan, incorporating input from clients Provides direct services to clients and issue-specific, psychoeducational groups Responds to crisis situations with twenty-four hour per day availability Documents case activities for both clinical and billing purposes Provides information for progress reports Participates in interdisciplinary, diagnostic, and/or planning meetings, as deemed appropriate by Primary Clinician Collaborates and coordinates with other case-involved service providers and professionals as an advocate for the client in the recovery process, as deemed appropriate by Primary Clinician Links clients with external programs or services, such as health services, recreational activities, child care services, financial resources, employment resources, 12-step/self-help groups, transportation resources, and others Works with Supervisor to increase effectiveness of interventions Contributes to written Discharge Summary and Plan Apprizes Supervisor of work load, case activity, service barriers, and procedural problems in team and individual meetings Alternates 24 hour crisis availability with other team members Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Peer Recovery Specialist will meet criteria of Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) as defined by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals (DHP). PRS will preferably have a minimum 1 year of experience in recovery work and must demonstrate strong, ethical boundaries. PRS will preferably have experience with the adolescent population and with serving families. Ideally, this individual will have the equivalent training and education of a Bachelor’s level degree from a regionally accredited university or college. Knowledge, skills, and abilities Knowledge of principles and techniques of work as a Peer Professional; working knowledge of human services systems, roles of human services personnel, and relevant community resources; ability to maintain effective working relationships with other social services providers, service purchasers, and clients; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Contractors or employees must pass a State Police Criminal Record Check, Department of Social Services Record and FBI Checks. The contractors or employees are also required to complete a Tuberculosis Screening Test or Tuberculosis Skin Test upon employment and a Tuberculosis screening test annually thereafter.
