Director, US Medical Rheumatology

Job Description The Director is a critical role within the US Medical Affairs (USMA) organization that reports to the Vice President. The role has tactical accountability grounded in science, disease state, and competitive clinical data in support of one or more products, and supports the development and ongoing updates to relevant product-specific medical strategies, in partnership with the Vice President and Medical Unit. As designated by the Vice President, and representing their specific area of accountability, the Director serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), representing the USMA at the global level for a product/franchise, on relevant internal committees. The Director drives overall medical unit insights, including advisory boards, and communication to cross-functional partners. Responsibilities & Accountabilities Overarching Responsibilities Tactical accountability grounded in science, disease state, competitive clinical data in support of one or more products. TA and/or product focus may evolve to support the priorities of the organization. In collaboration with Vice President/Sr. Director(s), oversee execution of medical strategies by the medical unit and partner with the PM to track progress against strategic plans, including the development and communication of periodic reports. Execute against the US Product medical strategy Support Vice President/Sr. Director(s) to lead/co-develop/coordinate with the medical unit and provide medical input into the near-term strategic direction for assigned product/franchise and/or specific area of focus. Support development and ongoing updates to relevant product-specific medical strategies, in partnership with Vice President/Sr. Director(s) and the medical unit, and in alignment with the commercial brand strategy and global product teams. Support development of long-term lifecycle management strategy and tactics (HEOR, etc.). Collaborate with PM (as applicable) to develop and maintain medical landscape and insights to inform strategy. Medical Expert Serve as the in-house medical and scientific expert for therapies within the assigned TA and represent medical affairs at the global level for a product/franchise. Generate insights – support execution of advisory board strategy, which may be done in partnership with the PM (as applicable), and insights from field medical/additional sources. Understand and communicate insights: synthesize summarized insights and implications from relevant sources (e.g., advisory boards, field medical) to medical unit and cross-functional stakeholders and update medical landscape and strategy as appropriate. External Engagement Support insights developed through advisory boards, professional associations/meetings, and conferences. Manage global interactions with US KOLs and vice-versa (subject to delegation from the Vice President/Sr. Director(s) or the needs of the program). Budget Management Subject to delegation from the Vice President/Sr. Director(s) or the needs of the program. Execution / Content Creation Partner with the medical unit functional leads to ensure strategic alignment related to execution of the relevant franchise/product medical strategy and how it is pulled through into tactics (e.g., grants, medical communications, publications, research, field medical, etc.). Support medical review of appropriate materials as part of medical and commercial review processes. Education, Experience & Skills Required Advanced doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD) or other advanced degree professionals considered depending on past relevant experience, including at least 4 years pharmaceutical industry experience and/or clinical work, research, or academic endeavors. Minimum 2 years’ experience with clinical research, publication activities, congress presentations, and public speaking. Licenses/Certifications Maintain minimum standards of education/certification in individual professional discipline. Travel Requirements Periodic travel required (up to 30%). Compensation and Benefits Summary U.S. Base Salary Range: $192,400 - $302,390. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-term incentives, medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive per calendar year up to 80 hours of sick time and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
