At Thompson Pipe Group, we design and build the pressure, sanitary, drainage, and trenchless pipe systems that keep communities moving. As a Spiral‑Weld Pipe Repair Welder, you’ll bring steel cylinders into spec—inside and out—so they meet demanding standards for durability and performance.

Steel cylinders arrive at your station. You examine spiral seams, scan the interior and exterior for discontinuities, check dimensions down to 1/32 inch, and record what you find. You square ends with an oxy‑acetylene torch, prep with grinders, then perform back‑gouge and back‑weld repairs using FCAW. You keep your tools tuned, your area orderly, and you coordinate with the crew leader while working under general supervision.

• Inspect full interior and exterior surfaces of spirally welded cylinders to AWWA C200 and project specifications; execute necessary repairs.
• Accurately document repairs and dimensional readings to the nearest 1/32 inch.
• Square cylinder ends and perform corrective work with an oxy‑acetylene cutting torch and handheld grinders.
• Handle minor maintenance on welding equipment and associated tools; use and care for company‑provided equipment properly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free workstation.

• Pass a 3G test with back‑gouge and back‑weld using the FCAW process.
• Demonstrated ability to weld to ASME Section VIII, UW‑51 (100% RT X‑ray) criteria with a 92% or higher acceptance rate.
• Experience with flux‑cored welding; SMAW required; SAW experience is a plus.
• Fluency with standard welding practices and procedures; able to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Hands‑on proficiency using flux‑cored process, cutting torch, handheld grinders, and related tools.

• MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux‑Cored arc welding equipment.
