The Level II Registered Nurse assumes an expanded role, which may include charge nurse, preceptor, and committee member responsibilities. On this unit, care is provided for a variety of surgical patients, including thoracic, foregut, and plastic surgery patients, including burn patients. There are stepdown beds for post-operative patients requiring more frequent monitoring. Specialization includes the management and care for pulmonary hypertension patients, through a dedicated pulmonary care center. The position involves developing a diversified skill set while working with a variety of medical equipment, tubes, lines, and drains.
