Reg Respiratory Therapist (NICU)-Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center-Full Time Nights

Responsible for providing respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities, under supervision of physician. Principal Accountabilities Evaluates prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, and checks patient information to assess patient condition and determine treatment requirements. Renders aerosol medications and treatments to patients for inhalation and positions patients to assist breathing and prevent lung obstruction. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants and necessary precautions in accordance with physician's orders. Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to support respiration. Operates equipment to ensure specified treatment parameters such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and administers medicinal gases and aerosol drugs. Monitors patient physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs chest physiotherapy to remove mucus and assists patients in breathing exercises. Assists with diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests used by physicians for diagnosis. Observes equipment function, adjusts settings to achieve optimum therapy results. Consults with physician in the event of adverse reactions. Maintains patient charts containing pertinent identification and therapy information; inspects and tests equipment, ensuring safe operation and ordering repairs when needed. Provides patient education and support for chronic lung disease. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel. May care for premature infants, elderly patients, and trauma patients as required. Other related duties as assigned. Education Associate of Science degree from an accredited respiratory therapist program, required. Bachelor’s Degree, highly preferred. Relevant Experience 1+ years of Respiratory Care experience, highly preferred. Critical care experience, highly preferred. Experience with PFT studies and cardiopulmonary testing, highly preferred. Experience with EPIC charting, highly preferred. License / Certification Active license for Respiratory Therapy in New Jersey, required; credentialed as Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care within one year of employment. Basic Life Support certification required; Advanced Life Support expected to be obtained within 12 months of hire.
