Assistant Recreation Specialist

The Assistant Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting the Recreation Specialist in all aspects of administration, management, coordination, and planning the recreational programs for participants enrolled in City programs. Assists in the oversight of recreation programs involving coordination, planning, and supervising staff, volunteers, and participants in multi-functional recreation programs. Work involves assisting the Recreation Specialist in the management of Art and Adult Enrichment recreational programs. The work schedule varies based on program, and the schedule is subject to change throughout the year. Position requires the ability to travel and work at various facilities as needed.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee's level of proficiency and usage.

Job Specific Every employee in this position must be able to:

• Coordinate, develop, and implement recreational programs under the supervision of the Recreation Specialist
• Follow safety protocols and proper use of PPE when cleaning or coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens
• Follow written and verbal instructions
• Work with the public effectively and establish effective working relationships with other employees
• Operate standard office equipment such as copy and fax machines, personal computers, and telephones
• Respond calmly and effectively to and handle emergencies, making proper judgments as to the correct course of action
• Perform multiple tasks
• Work efficiently in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and RecTrac
• Type a minimum of 25 words per minute
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper telephone and email etiquette
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Demonstrate creativity, self-motivation, and knowledge in the recreation program area

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks:

1. Assists with the daily operations of recreation programs, equipment, and facilities
2. Assists with RecTrac maintenance, class management, and contacting guests as needed
3. Inventories, orders, and tracks program equipment and supplies
4. Acquires supplies as needed from local vendors and stores
5. Assists with organizing invoices, creating purchase orders, and tracking budget accounts when requested
6. Carries a City purchasing card (P-Card) for program purchases and follows all P-Card policies and procedures
7. Maintains the safety of staff and program participants
8. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
9. Ability to travel between recreation facilities to assist in program supervision and guest service

1. May cover the duties of the Recreation Specialist position as needed

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required:

• A minimum of 21 years of age
• Experience with program administration and guest service
• Must possess or be able to obtain a CPR and Standard First Aid Certificate within ninety (90) days of employment

Preferred:

• One year of experience working in recreation/leisure services, or the art industry
• College-level courses in recreation, education, or a closely related subject field
• Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, RecTrac, and Adobe or similar computer software programs

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
