Construction Manager

Freese and Nichols is currently searching for an experienced Construction Manager in Martinsville, VA . In this role, you will act as construction manager for a dam rehabilitation project. This project will include construction involving soils, traditional concrete, roller compacted concrete, drain fill, riprap, pipe and reinforcing steel. You will administer the construction contract by managing, observing, and reporting on ongoing construction on a variety of transportation, water and/or facilities infrastructure projects to verify compliance with approved plans and specifications.Primary ResponsibilitiesManage the observation and inspection of ongoing construction work including material sampling and testing as well as measuring quantities.Review contractor’s work for compliance with contract documents and clarify contract documents for the contractor.Lead the development and management of change/field orders, updates to construction schedule, submittals, request for Information (RFI), claims, pay requests, construction meetings and closeout processesCommunicate with contactor about non-conforming workCorrespond with client, contractors, and other employeesCollaborate with design teams to facilitate responses to RFIs and submittals and/or construction issuesRead plans and specifications to be able to ensure construction is in accordance with plans and specificationsCommunicate with owner to understand owner’s needs and clarify owner’s objectives and relay information to Freese and Nichols and contractorsConduct pre-bid and pre-construction conferencesSupport the design phase process as assignedOversee field staff and the execution of their daily workCoordinate with our third-party testing subcontractorImplement the QA testing planPerform weekly observation of the Contractor’s erosion control systems during construction.Support sales and marketing effortsQualificationsAssociate degree in a related field or equivalent experience5+ years of experience in dam construction and/or similar heavy constructionFully proficient in project management information systems (e.g. e-Builder, Buzzsaw, Site Manager, etc.)Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsPreferredEIT, CMIT, or similar certificationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbout Freese and NicholsAt the heart of our culture is our LEADS values ( L earn continuously, E ngage as family, A ct with integrity, D eliver quality, and S erve always).
