Academic Program Professional 1 – AI and Education Specialist Location: Stanford Main Campus; Hybrid (3 or more days per week on site) Position Type: Exempt, Full‑time, Fixed Term (2 years) Overview The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) supports innovation in undergraduate learning. As an AI and Education Specialist with the Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), you will implement and administer AI‑related teaching programs, providing evidence‑based guidance to Stanford instructors and supporting a new seed‑grant initiative that encourages course redesign in the presence of generative AI tools. Responsibilities Oversee and administer CTL programs related to teaching and generative AI; shape program design, logistics, and resources. Collect and analyze data, create reports, and interpret trends to assess program effectiveness; recommend actions to improve outcomes. Teach and/or assist in professional development sessions for Stanford instructors on AI and teaching, including curriculum development and improvement recommendations. Facilitate workshops, discussions, and consultations on AI‑related teaching strategies with faculty, lecturers, and teaching teams. Write and edit content for program activities under the guidance of CTL staff. Stay current on research‑based educational practice in AI and higher education to offer sound advice to instructors. Represent the program as the key contact and subject‑matter expert within the unit and at broader institutional settings; develop communications for internal and external constituencies. Coordinate outreach activities such as events, partnerships, training, and conferences. Collaborate with financial staff to monitor expenses and budgets, ensuring responsible stewardship of program funds. May supervise and train student workers. Perform routine desk‑based tasks and occasional physical demands outlined in the job classification. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience. Experience teaching or facilitating in educational, professional development, or training settings. Experience navigating the challenges and opportunities of generative AI technology in educational contexts. Program administration experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of evidence‑based teaching practices for higher education. Strong oral, written, and analytical communication skills, with fluency about AI and education. Proactive communication about work progress, questions, timelines, and feedback. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines. Collaborative, inclusive, and equitable working style with campus stakeholders. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Capability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff. Preferred Requirements Advanced degree (Master’s, doctoral, or professional). Experience in a higher education environment working with faculty, staff, and students. Experience teaching and/or facilitating workshops or training programs in higher education. Project management experience, especially for long‑term projects with multiple stakeholders and dependencies. Benefits The expected pay range for this position is $90,694 to $108,963 per annum.
