Primary Responsibilities:

• It is the supervisor's role to oversee daily operations and ensure all quality and safety standards are upheld. The supervisor participates in food preparation, ensuring all food production is appropriate. He/She supervises all cafeteria employee job duties. Supervisors maintain close communication with the cafeteria manager about any major issues or concerns.

Education/Certification:

• Serve Safe certified or obtained within 30 days of hire

Special Knowledge:

• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of different individuals
• Ability to understand written and verbal food preparations and HACCP instructions
• Ability to operate small and large kitchen equipment and tools
• Ability to perform basic math
• Ability to train cafeteria staff in all operational areas of the kitchen
• Strong organization and time management skills

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in institutional food service preferred

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Supervises kitchen area on a daily basis – Lead by example
• Assumes the lead role of the cafeteria when the manager is unavailable
• Makes recommendations to cafeteria manager regarding production numbers and ordering amounts
• Notify manager of any needed grocery items on a weekly basis
• Ensures food is sustained throughout the entire meal period, portioned correctly and food is rotated properly during service.
• Monitors and corrects safety and sanitation standards of cafeteria/kitchen staff
• Ability to effectively reorganize staff during staffing shortages to ensure all necessary production and clean up procedures are covered daily
• Handles employee training and direction, monitors and corrects Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), employee performance standards up to and/or including disciplinary action.
• Performs the opening and closing of Student Account Operating Program
• Monitor Menu Planning Program – including New Recipe Development
• Occasional special event support
• Promote teamwork among the staff
• Assume all duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or other duties as needed for the completion of daily assignments
