District Manager

Heritage Pool Supply Group, Inc.

Position Purpose:

The District Manager is responsible for directing the operational efficiency and strategic growth of branch locations within their division, ensuring alignment with corporate missions and financial objectives. This role requires the oversight of staff development, inventory management, vendor relationships, and compliance with industry regulations to maximize profitability and ensure exceptional customer service. The District Manager will leverage strong leadership and analytical skills to drive financial performance, integrate new acquisitions, and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all branches.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead district operations to achieve and surpass key business objectives, including profitability, asset management, and return on investment, by implementing effective strategies for branch growth and operational efficiency.
  • Drive a robust safety culture by conducting thorough location visits, actively participating in training, and ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Hazmat regulations, thereby promoting a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Develop and mentor team members by providing continuous training, identifying talent, and creating clear paths for growth, which enhances overall team performance and addresses skill deficiencies.
  • Maximize district profitability by ensuring each branch operates efficiently, with a focus on maintaining optimal sales margins, providing exceptional customer service, and managing effective inventory control practices.
  • Provide strategic leadership for turnaround, greenfield, and newly acquired branches by implementing effective policies, procedures, and processes, while making decisive actions on operational inefficiencies.
  • Monitor market dynamics and sales performance across the district, taking ownership of achieving budget goals, and holding teams accountable for meeting sales objectives while enhancing customer growth and margins.
  • Oversee financial operations with P&L responsibility, leveraging keen financial acumen to guide business decisions, maximize revenue opportunities, and drive improvements in key performance indicators to enhance overall district profitability.
Direct Manager / Direct Reports:

Reports directly to the Regional Vice President. This role functions to ensure strategic alignment with corporate objectives and the implementation of divisional strategies to achieve profitability and operational excellence.
Directly oversees Branch Managers within their geographical purview. This includes guiding the performance and development of these key personnel to ensure the attainment of divisional targets and adherence to safety and operational protocols.

The role emphasizes leadership in safety, talent development, operational efficiency, and strategic growth, all while maintaining competitive positioning and financial performance within the district.

Travel Requirements:

Required to travel approximately 50% of the time to various branch locations within the district to conduct site visits, ensure operational efficiency, and support strategic growth initiatives.

Physical Requirements:

The position of District Manager entails primarily office-based tasks that require prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working with a computer. Regular travel to branch locations is essential, demanding the ability to commute between sites and adapt to varying weather conditions encountered during these visits. Additionally, the role involves occasional physical activities, including the ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds, ensuring branch operations meet logistical and safety requirements.

The work environment may include exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and high noise levels, as well as interaction with equipment and chemical substances common to landscape, irrigation, and pool operations. Working Conditions:

The District Manager operates in a versatile work environment that encompasses both office-based and remote working conditions. Engagement in direct supervision of branch operations, strategic planning, and team development requires a proactive and responsive approach to achieve key business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information and influence decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service and relationship management.
  • Proven sales and customer service skills with a track record of meeting or exceeding objectives.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to oversee multiple branch operations efficiently.
  • Proficient time management skills capable of meeting stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to interact professionally with diverse groups including employees, customers, vendors, and contractors.
  • General computer proficiency with foundational knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of inventory management, fleet maintenance, and regulatory requirements (DOT, OSHA, Hazmat).
  • Experience in budgeting, P&L responsibility, and financial acumen that guides business decisions and maximizes revenue.
  • Ability to pass background check and pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analyzing complex financial and operational data to optimize performance and identify areas for strategic improvement. Experience using data analytics tools to drive decision-making processes is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of leading teams through transformative periods of growth and change. Capacity to inspire, motivate, and empower teams while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adaptability.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic business plans that align with corporate objectives and result in measurable growth. Ability to translate broad strategies into specific objectives and action plans.
  • Expertise in cultivating and maintaining strong, sustainable partnerships with vendors and key clients. Ability to negotiate and manage contracts that maximize profitability and ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments to drive operational efficiencies and achieve company goals. Experience leading or participating in cross-functional initiatives that enhance the overall business performance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of compliance requirements including DOT, OSHA, and Hazmat regulations. Ability to ensure that all branches adhere to regulatory standards to mitigate risks and uphold safety protocols.
  • Strong track record in identifying opportunities for innovation and process improvement. Experience implementing solutions that lead to operational excellence and increased customer satisfaction.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders. Strong public speaking and presentation skills to effectively represent the company at various levels.
  • Advanced proficiency in using specific industry-related software and Microsoft Office Suite to enhance productivity and operational performance. Familiarity with CRM platforms and financial software is advantageous.
Minimum Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Preferred Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Distribution, or related business degrees advantageous to enhance leadership effectiveness and alignment with industry-specific growth strategies.

Minimum Years Of Work Experience:

Minimum of 2-5 years of work experience in Landscape/Irrigation/Pool is required.

Certifications:
  • No required certifications: relevant professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are a plus.
Competencies:
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead and motivate teams effectively, ensuring staff are trained, supported, and aligned with organizational objectives. This includes talent identification, development, and ensuring optimal staffing levels.
  • Possesses strong financial analysis skills, understanding of P&L statements, and the ability to make data-driven decisions to optimize revenue, margins, and overall financial performance.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and standards, such as DOT, OSHA, and other relevant compliance requirements, to safeguard employees and customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of building and maintaining effective relationships with staff, customers, vendors, and all stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strong skills in driving sales growth and customer engagement, with a focus on meeting and exceeding sales targets, managing customer relationships, and enhancing market positioning.
