Genetic Counselor I

Location: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TX Salary Range: $79,092 to $95,000 FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Summary This is a clinical genetic counselor position for the Renal clinic and Renal Genetics clinic at Texas Children's Hospital. The genetic counselor in this position will see patients in an outpatient setting in the Renal and Renal genetics clinic at Texas Children's Hospital main campus. The genetic counselor will also have the opportunity to supervise and teach genetic counseling graduate students, clinical and laboratory fellows, and other learners. The genetic counselor filling this full-time position will join over 30 genetic counselors within the Texas Children's Hospital system. The main responsibilities include staffing and coordinating the Renal genetics clinics, genetic counseling clinics, and providing services to the Renal clinics and providers at Texas Children's Hospital. Job Duties Works collaboratively with all members of the Renal team and Renal genetics attendings, including any fellows, residents, graduate students. Obtains medical and family history of the renal genetics and select renal patients suspected of having an underlying genetic etiology during their outpatient clinic settings. Counsels patients and families regarding results. Arranges follow-up appointments as indicated.Acts as part of a team of pediatric genetic counselors who participate in bimonthly meetings. Supervises genetic counseling students. Provides excellent care to patients. Works collaboratively with all members of the genetics team. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Genetic Counseling. No experience required. Board-eligible or Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
