HR Coordinator

Overview This position will support the workforce for matters and questions pertaining to Human Resources functions, including greeting visitors to the Norfolk HR Department. The coordinator will be cross‑trained to assist with basic data entry and maintenance in HR Information Systems, preparing, processing, maintaining and controlling personnel documents and status changes. Duties also include correspondence, assisting with employee benefits such as Workers Compensation, health, vision, dental, retirement plans, and FMLA. Description Greets visitors to the Norfolk HR Department and is the first point of contact for general HR‑related inquiries. Cross‑trained on and assists with basic data entry and maintenance in HR Information Systems. Prepares, processes, maintains and controls personnel documents, status changes, correspondence, and reports in Laserfiche. Processes and maintains workforce development forms. Maintains electronic files for all memos and documents. Prepares weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Keeps employee file records up‑to‑date by handling changes in employee status in a timely manner, with appropriate intervals documented. Responds to various queries from managers, employees, and outside agencies. Maintains current detailed written procedures on all duties and responsibilities. Qualifications US Citizenship. Typically 1+ years of relevant HR experience. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and Laserfiche or their equivalents. Proficient in the use of a variety of general office equipment and skilled at typing at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Adherence to corporate policies and State and Federal Privacy and security laws related to records. Basic understanding of the principles and procedures of human resources administration. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential personnel issues and employee situations. Ability to respectfully respond to requests and inquiries from staff and the general public in person and over the telephone. Ability to analyze and resolve problems in a logical and effective manner. Ability to manage important and complex records and maintain confidentiality. Ability to interpret, apply, and explain applicable rules and regulations. Detail oriented. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain accurate records and files. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple job assignments. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Norfolk, VA. Pay and Benefits Pay range: $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
