Health Care Technician I (S) Grade: MH01 Salary & Benefits Recruitment Range: $31,200.00 - $46,348.00 A sign‑on bonus of $2,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval. Description of Work The Health Care Technician position provides direct patient care by managing the milieu on the unit through close observation and interaction with the patients. This position fosters a therapeutic environment and assists in the activities of daily living. The Health Care Technician supports patients working toward the goals and objectives of their treatment and monitors medical, emotional, behavioral, and social problems. The Health Care Technician is responsible for transporting patients to appointments outside the medical facility. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of a variety of psychiatric, intellectual disabilities, medical and/or other related conditions. Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques. Ability to deliver services in an organized timely manner. Knowledge of nursing methods and techniques in caring for medical, surgical and mentally ill patients. Mandatory Responsibilities This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. Shift Premiums (12‑Hour Shifts) Day (6:45 am - 7:15 pm) Eligibility for Sign‑on Bonus: To qualify, a newly hired permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week. Those working less than 40 hours receive a prorated rate. Sign‑on Bonus Eligibility The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (ineligible for 12 months from separation date). The employee has previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency. DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees. About The Facility The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: Woodside Treatment Center and Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The mission is to provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co‑occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community based treatment and recovery. The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission. Minimum Education and Experience High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
