A well-established organization is adding a Payroll Administrator to its Finance and Accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of the organization's payroll function and become the primary resource for payroll processing, system administration, reporting, and compliance.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working independently while partnering with Finance and HR. A positive attitude and willingness to investigate and solve problems are important for success in this role.

The Payroll Administrator will oversee the full biweekly payroll process for 100+ employees. This individual will manage payroll records, deductions, garnishments, benefits, tax-related items, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance requirements while ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.

The position will also serve as the primary internal resource for the payroll system and will work closely with Finance and HR on payroll accounting, audits, reporting, process improvements, and employee inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the end-to-end biweekly payroll process and verify payroll information before each submission.
• Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, departures, compensation changes, direct deposits, tax elections, and benefit deductions.
• Review wages, taxes, deductions, benefit contributions, and other payroll components for accuracy.
• Handle garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other legally required deductions.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee questions, system issues, and tax notices.
• Process special payroll items such as bonuses, commissions, adjustments, retroactive payments, and off-cycle transactions.
• Prepare payroll accounting entries and ensure payroll information flows accurately into the accounting system.
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts, including wages payable, payroll taxes, benefits, PTO, and retirement contributions.
• Provide payroll information and supporting schedules for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
• Produce payroll reports, headcount summaries, labor analyses, overtime information, and other management reporting.
• Coordinate annual W-2 preparation and reconciliation activities.
• Assist with payroll tax filings, compliance requirements, and correspondence with government agencies.
• Support workers' compensation audits and provide requested payroll documentation.
• Assist with 401(k) administration, including contributions, employee transactions, funding, reporting, and audit support.
• Research state-specific payroll requirements when needed, including tax and unemployment regulations.
• Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, controls, and workflow processes.
• Participate in payroll system updates, testing, enhancements, and automation initiatives.
• Serve as the primary payroll contact for internal and external audits.
• Partner with HR and Finance to address payroll-related questions and ensure accurate employee information.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of progressive payroll processing and/or payroll-related HR experience.
• Strong understanding of payroll administration, payroll taxes, deductions, and wage compliance.
• Paycom experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel capabilities, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to research unfamiliar payroll requirements and independently determine appropriate next steps.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to consistently meet payroll deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and compensation information.
• Clear and professional communication skills.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations, payroll accounting, garnishments, benefits, and retirement plans is preferred.
