Location: Augusta, Maine Type: Full‑time Visa sponsorship: Not available Core Responsibilities Contribute to the department's mission by preparing, scanning, and processing payments accurately and efficiently. Review financial transactions to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and correct payment disbursement through accounting software. Analyze transactions requiring additional review to determine appropriate processing and resolve discrepancies in compliance with departmental policies, federal regulations, and state statutes. Perform daily reconciliation tasks to verify that all transactions are accurate, safeguarded, and processed in a timely manner. Collaborate with team members to resolve issues, streamline processes, and support a culture of teamwork and customer service by assisting colleagues with daily operational needs. Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers by responding to inquiries promptly, professionally, and with a solution‑focused approach. Minimum Qualifications Entry‑level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or a closely related field demonstrating competency in applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports. Possess good critical‑thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast‑paced environment. Basic understanding of accounting practices and controls. Prior experience or education that demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/GASB, analyzing accounting data, and performing accounting reconciliations. Agency Information The DHHS Financial Service Center provides program accounting, cash management, and revenue/expenditure control for the Department of Health and Human Services. The Center offers budget and fiscal analysis for areas such as TANF and MaineCare, and collaborates with senior leadership to deliver consultative financial and accounting services.
