Provide essential communication support within educational settings by utilizing your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals experienced in facilitating learning for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Your role will ensure equal access to classroom instruction and school activities through accurate interpretation, bridging communication between students, staff, and families.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI), meeting state requirements.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
- Previous experience interpreting in school or educational settings strongly preferred.
- Ability to adapt interpreting style to suit varied age groups and learning environments.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken language during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and special education teams to support student learning needs.
- Encourage active student participation and help facilitate social interactions.
- Support compliance with IEPs and other educational plans.
- Maintain impartiality and confidentiality in all interpreting situations.
- Provide clarification or explanation of terms or concepts when requested by the educational team.
