Medical Billing AssistantThe Medical Billing Assistant supports the billing team by assisting with the preparation, submission, and follow-up of laboratory claims. This role helps ensure accurate billing, timely payments, and compliance with healthcare regulations while providing administrative support to the laboratory billing department.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with preparing and submitting laboratory claims to insurance carriersVerify patient demographic and insurance informationEnter and update billing data in billing systems and EHR/LIS platformsReview claims for accuracy and completeness prior to submissionAssist with payment posting and tracking of accounts receivableHelp follow up on denied or unpaid claims under supervisionRespond to basic billing inquiries from patients and insurance companiesMaintain organized and confidential billing recordsSupport audits and compliance requirements as neededQualificationsRequired:High school diploma or equivalentBasic knowledge of medical billing or healthcare administrationStrong data entry and organizational skillsAttention to detail and accuracyAbility to handle confidential information in compliance with HIPAAPreferred:Previous experience in medical billing, preferably in a laboratory or healthcare settingFamiliarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codesExperience with billing software, EHR, or laboratory information systems (LIS)Certification or coursework in medical billing or codingSkills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detailBasic understanding of insurance processesGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentTeam-oriented with a willingness to learn
