Summary/Primary Role:

The Lead Medical Assistant is an advanced clinical support role responsible for coordinating workflow, supporting daily clinical operations, and serving as a resource for the Medical Assistant team. This role assists with training, competency development, and troubleshooting clinical challenges while maintaining full proficiency in all Medical Assistant II and III responsibilities. The Lead Medical Assistant helps ensure efficient patient flow, consistent adherence to clinical protocols, and effective collaboration across the practice. This position is not a formal supervisory role but provides key leadership support to both clinical teams and management.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform all Medical Assistant I, II, and III duties with advanced competency.
• Assist providers with complex or specialty procedures and ensure clinical rooms, equipment, and supplies are prepared to support patient care.
• Complete and oversee point-of-care testing, specimen handling, and equipment quality controls.
• Act as a clinical resource for troubleshooting workflow issues or equipment concerns.
• Coordinate daily workflow for the Medical Assistant team, ensuring adequate staffing coverage, room readiness, and efficient patient flow.
• Serve as a point-of-contact for MAs, providers, and clinical leadership regarding clinical operations.
• Assist with planning and distributing daily assignments, adjusting as necessary based on patient volume and provider needs.
• Support communication between staff, providers, and management to ensure smooth operations.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring new Medical Assistants.
• Provide ongoing coaching, skill reinforcement, and support to MA I, II, and III team members.
• Participate in competency assessments, skill validations, and feedback processes.
• Promote consistency in clinical protocols and adherence to best practices across locations.
• Assist with supply management, ordering, and inventory oversight, including specialty equipment or materials.
• Support quality initiatives, workflow improvements, and operational initiatives led by clinical leadership.
• Help maintain accurate documentation, EHR workflows, and compliance with organizational policies.
• Ensure team adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, infection control protocols, and all regulatory standards.
• Support compliance audits, equipment checks, and safety initiatives.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA) required from an accredited program or at least five (5) years of clinical experience in lieu of certification.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical experience preferred.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
• Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and perform clinical tasks safely and accurately.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting while maintaining attention to detail.
• Basic proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems preferred.

Phlebotomy Certified:

Employees who hold a valid phlebotomy certification and perform phlebotomy duties as part of their role are eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour Phlebotomy Differential. This differential applies to all eligible hours worked while the employee is actively performing duties that require phlebotomy skills. Certification must be maintained and kept current to qualify for the differential.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have formal supervisory authority but provides leadership support, coordination, and guidance for Medical Assistants at all levels.

Expected Hours of Work:

An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base hourly rate range for this position is $27.50-$30.00.

Travel Requirements:

Employees may be required to float to other Premier Medical Group locations based on operational needs. When assigned to work outside of the employee's primary location, a $1.00 per hour Float Differential will be applied for all eligible hours worked.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

• This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring alertness, sound judgment, and adherence to patient safety standards at all times.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, and move between exam rooms throughout the day.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting or moving supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds; occasional assistance with patient positioning may be required.
• Ability to use hands for clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, operating medical equipment, and performing procedures within scope.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through electronic systems.
