Behavioral Assistant

Starting Date: Aug 26, 2026 Job Description Definition: Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Behavior Assistant will provide one‑to‑one support to a student with behavioral issues. The assistant will implement comprehensive positive behavioral support plans and effective behavior management strategies; deliver instructions; participate as a member of the educational team; and help design and implement all components of the student's individual program. Essential Functions and Job Duties Assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of classroom instruction and behavior support. Implement Behavior Strategic Plan/Behavior Intervention Plan. Implement behavior strategies. Support students throughout the school day, including recess and lunch. Supervise students throughout the school day in classrooms, during educational activities, and during recess and lunch. Consult and collaborate with site staff. Assist in student assessments as appropriate. Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate. Maintain appropriate documentation, records, and reports. Participate in developing data collection systems, and monitor data collection to ensure the success of the behavior plan. Qualifications Certification in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) in non‑violent crisis interventions desired. First Aid and CPR training required (training available through the district). Knowledge Of Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics, particularly pertaining to pupils with special learning needs. Behavior management strategies and techniques relating to pupils experiencing behavioral difficulties. Positive behavioral interventions and applied behavior analysis. Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Basic mathematical concepts. Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures. Ability To Work with students having special needs and/or aggressive behaviors (e.g., biting, kicking, hitting, emotional outburst). Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups and disabilities. Appropriately manage student behavior and guide students toward more acceptable social behaviors. Implement positive behavior support plans. Model appropriate behavioral interventions. Communicate effectively in oral and written form. Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office‑related machines and equipment. Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults. Work with staff in developing data collection systems, and monitor data collection to ensure the success of the behavior plan. Experience and Education Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described. Experience: Experience working in an education setting implementing intensive behavioral intervention programs for students with complex and/or severe behavioral problems. Position Details Position type: Full‑time Benefits 6‑hour per school‑day position with district‑sponsored benefits, including health insurance contribution, paid dental, life and long‑term disability, sick time, and personal time. Position covers 184 days: 178 school days, 2 workshop days, and 4 paid holidays. Required background check (post‑offer, pre‑employment, including fingerprints). Associate degree or NHDOE Paraeducator Certification required. At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
