About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Correctional Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Must have an active nursing license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, MOAB (training provided if needed) Must-Have: Ability to sustain being on feet for 80% of the shift. Description: Block scheduling requests approved based on unit need. Must work 2 out of 3 of the holiday bundles (Thanksgiving & the day after, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day). The facility is smoke-free with no designated smoking areas. Must be able to pass a background check. MOAB certification is required. If the traveler does not already have the MOAB certification, they will receive a 4-hour de-escalation course during their first week. If they do not pass, their contract may be subject to cancellation. COVID vaccine is optional, but vaccination numbers must be reported. The facility capacity is approximately 1,900 inmates, with an average daily population fluctuating between 1,640 and 1,800. The RN will provide patients with routine and emergency healthcare. The RN will conduct health assessments and make necessary referrals to providers, detoxification, dental, and mental health professionals. The RN will be responsible for triaging and assessing new patients to the facility according to protocol. The RN will conduct detox rounds per protocol. Special procedures and equipment include phlebotomy, starting IVs, non-invasive airway management, and oxygen administration. Health assessments involve labs, vitals, history, and past diagnosis. The RN will provide urgent care and attend to sick calls in the pods. Travelers without MOAB certification must pass an in-person training during the orientation week, or the contract will be terminated. The environment is a correctional setting, requiring familiarity with various patient diagnoses. Candidates with previous experience in emergency or medical-surgical nursing will be considered. The RN must adhere to all isolation precautions and utilize personal protective equipment. Orientation and training modules may be required.
