Education Employment Specialist

The Education Employment Specialist plays a critical role supporting Juvenile Court’s guiding principles to be Youth and Family Centered, engage Community Partnerships, and pursue Balanced and Restorative Justice. Based in the Community Programs Unit, this position provides Job Readiness Training, employment and vocational placement services, as well as education support, for juvenile offenders in the Education Employment Training (EET) program. Responsibilities of the position require the employee to work collaboratively with juvenile probation counselors, court staff and other community and business partners in the coordination of educational and employment preparation, and placement services. The Education Employment Specialist may work in collaboration with community partners in grant-funded projects. Work location: The primary work location for this position is at the Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center, 1211 East Alder Avenue, Seattle, WA. The incumbent may be required to work at other facilities as assigned. Work Schedule and Terms: This position is hourly (overtime eligible) and subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position working a 40-hour workweek. The workweek for this position is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Variations from these hours may occur based on the needs of the court. The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level. Provide comprehensive pre-employment training, job development, job shadow and work experience placements while supporting community and personal safety. Provide employment assessment for youth enrolled in the EET program and Community Programs projects, or linkages to other workforce training or educational programs. Develop and maintain relationships with community businesses and potential employers; develop work site opportunities for clients; establish, maintain, coordinate, and monitor work-based training sites within the community. Facilitate curriculums for court-involved youth. Work with multi-disciplinary team to develop integrated services to ensure clients attain educational and vocational goals. Coordinate with program and community stakeholders to facilitate development activities for at-risk youth. Ensure youth have appropriate employment documents, all related paperwork is accurately completed and coordinate the submission of documents and paperwork required for employment training opportunities. Follow program specifications; develop and maintain client relations, support participants in academic, vocational, employment and personal development programming. Provide job-search and job retention training, develop internship and employment opportunities, and provide job search support. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate community-centered free time activities that build soft skills, strengthen healthy decision making, and promote positive youth development. Meet program quality assurance standards and performance-based outcomes. Complete monthly and quarterly reports in a timely manner. Participate in trainings and meet QAS standards for service provision. Utilize motivational interviewing techniques and the tell-show-do model to engage youth in school and employment. Manage an ongoing caseload of moderate tohigh risk, court-involved young people. Maintain comprehensive case files in accordance with the EET quality assurance plan. Obtain, organize, and maintain essential data and information regarding client demographics and service delivery as required by the agency and funding source. Act as liaison between the Superior Court, private and public sector employers, community agencies, employment/training programs, probation counselors, and educational institutions. Develop training materials for youth and program promotion materials for project development and community awareness. Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in psychology, education, social work, or related field plus one (1) year experience working with at-risk or court-involved youth, providing service delivery and case management, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions required of the job. Experience with job development, pre-employment classroom training/advanced vocational counseling for court-involved young people is highly desired. Experience working with youth and families from impacted communities. Must have a basic knowledge of community-based resources, services, and educational options. Must have strong organizational and record-keeping skills. Must be proficient with various computer software applications including Microsoft Office programs and database management. Must have knowledge of and ability to learn specialized software applications.
