Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech) Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech) to join a fast-paced Interventional Radiology department. In this role, you will assist physicians during minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while providing exceptional patient care before, during, and after interventions. The ideal candidate has experience in high-acuity Interventional Radiology, including stroke and trauma cases, and thrives in a collaborative procedural environment. Assignment Details Employment Type: Direct Hire Open Positions: 2 Schedule Options: Monday-Friday (Weekdays) Monday-Thursday, 4 x 10-hour night shifts Friday-Sunday, 3 x 12-hour night shifts On-Call: Backup call required. Candidates must be able to respond within 30 minutes when on call. Key Responsibilities Interventional Radiology Procedures Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. Perform specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging during vascular and non-vascular interventions. Prepare procedure rooms, sterile fields, equipment, and supplies. Perform scrub and circulating responsibilities during procedures. Prepare and position patients while ensuring safety and comfort. Monitor patients throughout procedures and promptly communicate changes in patient condition. Patient Care Explain procedures and answer patient questions. Assist with patient preparation and post-procedure care. Remove vascular catheters and sheaths using established protocols. Apply direct pressure or vascular closure techniques as appropriate. Communicate patient status during handoff to recovery or nursing staff. Documentation & Equipment Accurately document procedural information, hemodynamic data, contrast usage, and procedure charges. Enter patient information and inventory into departmental information systems. Monitor imaging equipment performance and report equipment issues for repair. Maintain adequate procedural supplies and inventory. Quality & Safety Adhere to radiation safety, infection prevention, and sterile technique standards. Maintain compliance with departmental policies and quality initiatives. Participate in ongoing education and competency development. Support a collaborative, patient-centered procedural environment. Required Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or an accredited Interventional Radiology Technology program. Certifications ARRT (R) - Registered Radiologic Technologist Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC) Experience Previous experience in Interventional Radiology is strongly preferred. Experience scrubbing and circulating IR procedures. Ability to work independently in a high-volume procedural environment. Preferred Qualifications Minimum one year of Diagnostic Radiology experience. Minimum one year of Interventional Radiology experience. Experience with: Stroke interventions Trauma procedures High-acuity hospital settings RCIS-certified candidates with invasive procedural experience are encouraged to apply. Experience supporting emergent vascular procedures is highly desirable. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of interventional radiology procedures and sterile technique. Proficiency with fluoroscopic imaging equipment. Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and efficient during emergency procedures. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Excellent organizational and documentation abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while wearing 10-15 pounds of radiation protective lead apparel. Ability to work in confined procedural environments. Manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination. Ability to maintain prolonged concentration during complex procedures. Ability to work safely around radiation, blood, bodily fluids, and other clinical hazards while following all safety protocols. Work Environment This position is based in a high-volume Interventional Radiology department serving both adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient populations. The department performs a wide range of emergent and scheduled procedures, including stroke interventions, trauma cases, and complex vascular procedures . Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with backup call responsibilities. Preferred Candidate Profile Current ARRT (R) certification and BLS certification. Experience scrubbing and circulating Interventional Radiology procedures. Previous experience with stroke and trauma interventions. Ability to respond to emergency call assignments within 30 minutes. Strong teamwork, communication, and patient care skills.
