The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health's first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. The Periop & Procedural Clinical Nursing Director (CND) will support clinical operations at a high level within the operating rooms, prep/recovery, diagnostic radiology & recovery, and interventional radiology areas at the Troy Medical Campus.

The CND provides professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for nursing practice for nurses, including Clinical Nurse Supervisor, RNs, LPNs, and PCTs. This includes staff development programs and unit orientation to ensure compliance with practice standards, identifying and resolving operational problems, and representing the assigned units on clinical area and hospital committees, maintaining compliance with Federal and State regulations, safety, and patient care. This individual participates as a member of the Troy leadership team and collaborates with like areas, to include ORs, PACUs, interventional radiology, and radiology, across the health system to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of University of Michigan Health (UMH).

The CND is a key partner with medical directors, radiology modality managers, perioperative and procedural leaders across UMH. This person collaborates in the development of budgets and activity forecasts; manages and provides variance reporting of activity, payroll, commodity, and capital budgets, and participates in new program development and implementation.

The CND is responsible for the clinical practice of nursing personnel, nurse staffing, scheduling, and administration of nursing, and provides supervision to clinical personnel. This role serves as the point of administrative and clinical leadership in a designated patient care unit during hours of operation. The CND provides coordination between management and patient care activities that is consistent with institutional goals and objectives, and provides essential coordination between patient care units within the organizational structure of Nursing Services.

Responsibilities*

• Develop and implement goals and objectives that include the establishment of standards of practice in patient care, consisting of national professional and regulatory guidelines.
• Integrate goals and objectives with Nursing Services and departmental goals and objectives. Advise and assist with the establishment of priorities and institutional program development.
• Ensure consistent implementation of evidence-based practice standards, policies, staffing models, and quality initiatives. Serving as the primary connector back to leadership teams in Ambulatory Periop, Diagnostic Radiology, and Interventional Radiology within Adult Hospitals.
• Work closely with medical staff, administrative leaders, and other disciplines for the successful implementation of patient, unit, and institutional objectives. Assist in the resolution of interdisciplinary operating problems.
• Supervise operations of the units of responsibility. Establish minimum/maximum staffing patterns to ensure quality patient care. Initiate and implement a staffing schedule that is consistent with care requirements and responds to varying patient activity and patient mix.
• Identify and recommend specific staffing needs and position qualifications consistent with the respective unit's objectives and patient case mix.
• Interview and select qualified personnel.
• Evaluate the performance of nursing staff responsible for the patient care units. Make recommendations for merit awards and personnel classification changes. Counsel and instruct nursing staff to enable achievement of unit and institutional objectives, especially as it is related to high-quality patient care.
• Interpret and implement University and hospital personnel policies and programs, and ensure uniformity and correct application.
• Project and monitor personnel budgets for patient care units. Provide information regarding budget variances to the Senior Nursing Director.
• Collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines to plan, evaluate, and implement the commodity budget for the patient care unit.
• Initiate and implement in-service guidelines for unit level orientation and staff development. Encourage and provide opportunities for continuing education of the nursing staff.
• Initiate, plan, analyze, and participate in Nursing staff development programs and workshops.
• Participate in concurrent and retrospective evaluation of patient care consistent with the hospital quality assurance program. Through this review process, evaluate and recommend changes and improvements in areas affecting the quality of patient care.
• Establish guidelines with the nursing faculty that support the institutional goal of providing the primary clinical environment for nursing students. Facilitate, coordinate, and monitor the clinical experience of nursing and other students.
• Initiate and cooperate in the applied research in health care while keeping with the institutional objectives of maintaining prominence in developing new modes of clinical practice.
• Formulate professional goals and prepare written evaluations for appropriate staff.
• This position reports directly to the Senior Nursing Director for the Troy Medical Campus.

Required Qualifications*

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
• Master's degree in nursing or health care administration, public health, business or related field (a juris doctor degree may be considered). If master's degree is not in nursing, a bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
• Two (2) years recent leadership experience, to include demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process skills.
• Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience with demonstration of progressive clinical competence.
• Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within one (1) year of accepting this position or when eligible to certify, whichever comes first. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nursing Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). Desired Qualifications*

• Two (2) years recent supervisory experience in a multi-specialty operating room or procedural department.
• Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience with demonstration of progressive clinical competence in a multi-specialty operating room or procedural area.
• Demonstrated ability to assess, interpret, and analyze nursing practice in a procedure-focused area independently and collaboratively.
• Experience in management of surgical instrumentation.
• Experience in managing large, complex operating room or procedural unit budgets.
• Knowledge and experience in designing and construction of procedural suites or operating rooms.
