Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Nursing Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7P - 7A) Experience: Minimum of 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required License: RN License required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; certification in med-surg is a plus Must-Have: - EKG competency - 6 months EPIC experience required - Telemetry skills: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms - Ability to manage IV drips including insulin, heparin, and amiodarone Description: Seeking a Registered Nurse for MedSurg/Telemetry. The position involves working in a busy and team-oriented environment. Each Med Surg unit has 20-36 beds. Patients include those with acute or chronic diseases and common co-morbidities. Common diagnoses include diabetes, hypertension, infections, and cardiac conditions. Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA up to 1:14. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and IV maintenance. The role requires strong assessment and time management skills. The nurse will coordinate care with an interdisciplinary team and assist in discharge planning. Patient education is essential. Support within the department includes a CNA for vitals, blood glucose checks, and other patient care tasks. There is a Unit Secretary available on duty from 7 AM to 11 PM. Charge nurses may or may not have patient assignments. The team is supported by respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7. Laboratory collections generally performed by RNs. A PICC team is available for specialized IV needs. Travelers may float to all Med/Tele units and the ED as necessary. Technology includes EPIC EMR and various monitoring equipment and dispensers.
