Summary Of Functions

The primary responsibility of the Online Social Studies Teacher is to support the implementations of Edgenuity Platform courses and provide direct best first instruction and direct interaction with students in an online learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The teacher actively collaborates with others to promote student achievement, and ensure that each student successfully achieves personal and program goals.

Required

• Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire
• Social Studies Endorsement or
• Teacher must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options:
• Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license
• 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area - Core
• Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series)
• Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in content area
• Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
• Must be willing to work in an on-site shared classroom space

Preferred

• Previous experience as a certified teacher
• Willingness and flexibility to invest in the collaborative process of designing and developing a high performance academic experience that meets the needs of the whole child
• Willingness to become an expert in the use of online learning platform, board adopted online curriculum, the use of Google Meets for synchronous learning opportunities and other technology and online applications as needed
• Experience applying the current best practices and strategies in online teaching to create rich and meaningful experiences for students
• Experience selecting and using a variety of grade-appropriate online tools for communication, productivity, collaboration, analysis, presentation, research, content delivery, and interaction to engage and support ALL students
• Commitment to creating a sense of community among virtual students
• Commitment to supporting safe digital learning spaces for all learners
• Commitment to monitoring and motivating learner engagement and relationships with students

• Ability to monitor, track, and recognize student progress within online courses and student efforts to engage in their learning
• Ability to act as mentor to specified students by connecting virtually with students and establishing a rapport that allows for open communication
• Knowledge of content standards and implementation of standards-based curriculum
• Ability to teach and meet the academic needs of all students ensuring academic progress in all content areas especially in reading/writing and mathematics
• Ability to collaborate with all instructional staff
• Previous experience to use data to make instructional decisions
• Knowledge/experience with the five components of reading and commitment to support and/or implement explicit and systematic reading instruction, based on scientific research
• Ability to use technology and integrate technology skills into the fully online curriculum
• Knowledge / experience teaching the diverse learner especially students who may have a specific learning plan such as an IEP, ILP, ELL, 504, etc.
• Knowledge /experience with and ability to implement scientific-based research best practices
• Previous experience with and ability to utilize effective small groups and whole class direct instruction strategies to differentiate instruction
• Knowledge / experience with Positive Behavior Support Program or willing to implement the school-wide discipline plan
