The Crate Builder assembles wooden boxes and crates to precise dimensions, supporting packaging operations and direct product sales. Working under the guidance of a supervisor, this role focuses on accurate construction, safe tool use, and consistent quality in all finished products.

Responsibilities

• Assemble wooden boxes and crates to exact specifications and dimensions for packaging or direct sales.
• Read and interpret measurements, using a tape measure and other tools to ensure accuracy in all builds.
• Perform woodworking and carpentry tasks such as cutting, fitting, and fastening materials according to build requirements.
• Use hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete assembly work.
• Inspect completed boxes and crates for quality, durability, and adherence to design standards.
• Organize and stage completed units for packaging, storage, or shipment as directed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Provide leadership support on the floor by guiding coworkers, sharing best practices, and helping coordinate daily tasks when needed.
• Communicate effectively with the supervisor and team regarding progress, issues, and material needs.
• Lift, move, and position materials and finished products, including items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of woodworking or carpentry experience.
• At least 2 years of experience using hand and power tools.
• Demonstrated ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
• Experience in crate building, box assembly, or similar woodworking assembly work.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds safely.
• Some form of leadership experience, such as serving as a lead or supervisor.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to building products to precise dimensions.
• Ability to work effectively under the direction of a supervisor and follow established procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Background in cabinetry or related woodworking fields.
• Experience in general carpentry tasks in a production or shop environment.
• Comfort working with a variety of hand and power tools in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and support team coordination on the shop floor.
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with supervisors and coworkers.

Work Environment

This role operates on first shift, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in a woodworking and production setting. You will work in a shop environment using hand and power tools, handling lumber and assembled crates, and performing tasks that require standing, bending, and lifting throughout the day. Safety procedures and proper tool handling are a core part of daily operations, and the environment is focused on efficient, accurate assembly work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
