Job Purpose Statement The job of Campus Assistant is to identify and address potential situations regarding the welfare and safety of students, personnel, visitors, and the security of the site; enforce truancy and disciplinary policies; respond to inquiries; and provide emergency care to students and others as required. Essential Job Functions Assists other personnel (e.g., office staff, administrators, teachers) with responses to incidents. Assists with graffiti removal, mail delivery, notices, and relief before/after school hours to switchboard. Detains individuals suspected of illegal activities for apprehension, transfer to police, or prevention of further illegal acts. Diffuses potential student conflicts (e.g. arguments, fights) to reduce frequency or severity of incidents. Monitors assigned areas and activities to prevent unauthorized presence, vandalism, hazards, and to protect students, personnel, and property. Prepares documentation to convey information and provide written support. Reports observations and incidents (e.g., discipline, accidents, fights, inappropriate behavior, rule violations) to teachers and administration using two‑way radios. Responds to potential emergencies (e.g., alarms, bomb threats, fights) to assure safety of students, personnel, and property. Other Job Functions Administers minor first aid (cuts, bruises) to students to meet immediate health needs. Counsels students on concerns (e.g., gang activity, threats, drugs) and advises appropriate action. Informs students, personnel, and the public about laws and enforcement procedures to ensure understanding of potential consequences. Interacts with other agencies (e.g., law enforcement, community professionals) to communicate and receive information affecting campus safety. Investigates potential campus crimes and student‑related incidents (e.g., drugs, gangs, bomb threats) to resolve conflicts and pursue action. Responds to inquiries from the public, parents, and students, providing information and direction. Transports students home as required to ensure their safety. Job Requirements – Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge: basic math; reading procedures, writing complex sentences, speaking distinctly; application of common sense with detailed multi‑step instructions in written, oral, and diagrammatic formats. Skills: perform multiple basic non‑technical tasks; apply relevant codes, policies, regulations, and laws; communicate with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds; operate standard office equipment; perform basic first aid and healthcare; and maintain accurate records. Abilities: handle complex tasks requiring flexibility, discretion, and independent judgment; interact with people under changing agendas; adhere to safety practices; attend to detail; and may be required to ride a bicycle. Responsibility Moderate opportunity for significant impact (positive or negative) on the organization’s mission; work may be reviewed. Working Environment Functions are performed in outdoor/indoor settings requiring lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and sensory, speaking, hearing, and visual abilities. Educational Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Requirements Some job‑related experience is required; military experience may substitute for job‑related experience.
