Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Employment Type: Full-time (36 hours weekly). Location: Silver Spring, Maryland. Shift: Night shift (12 hour). Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) / Graduate Nurse. Position Purpose Reporting to the Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) must demonstrate the passion to provide bedside care to a diverse and acutely ill population of patients in this 16-bed med/surg unit. The RN should possess the knowledge and skill to safely apply the nursing process to assess, plan and evaluate the care of patients with various health conditions. Responsibilities Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support patient-centered continuum of care. Communicate variances from patient goals and advocate on behalf of the patient. Maintain accurate and timely healthcare records. Administer medications to patients, provide education and monitor for efficacy and side effects. Assess, monitor, report and record patient condition and pertinent changes. Design, implement and evaluate patient nursing care plans with the healthcare team. Educate patients and family throughout stay and in preparation for discharge. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree required (BSN preferred). If BSN or MSN degree is not present on hire, the employee must sign an agreement to obtain it within a specified time frame. Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse. BLS certification (issued through the American Heart Association). At least 1 year of nursing experience in an acute care setting. Superb interpersonal, communication and collaboration abilities. Competency in electronic patient management systems. Preferred Qualifications BSN or MSN degree. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
