About the Position

Job Title: RN - Neonatal ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience is required. License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment. Manager approval is required for first-time travelers. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal ICU. The facility has 247 licensed beds, a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, and is a teaching hospital. The unit consists of 53 beds, with an average patient census of 58. Patient types and common diagnoses include: - Respiratory: Respiratory Distress Syndrome, TTN (Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn), MAS (Meconium Aspiration), and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. - Cardiac: Congenital Heart Defects, PDA, and Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn. - Neurological: Seizures, IVH, and Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy. - Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Musculoskeletal, Endocrine: Necrotizing Enterocolitis, feeding intolerance, congenital anomalies, sepsis, and hypoglycemia. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary depending on acuity levels: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3. Required skills include: - EPIC experience. - Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration and invasive lines. - Aseptic and sterile techniques. - Ventilator management and trach care. - Feeding tube, chest tube, and PCA management. - Bedside procedures and discharge skills. - Experience with ECMO and CRRT may be flexible. Support within the department includes a unit secretary, charge nurse, IV/VAT/PCVC team, resource nurse, intensivist, residents, in-house APP, and clinical supervisors. Technology and equipment include EMR: EPIC, IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, and other specialized equipment. Floating may occur to neonatal and pediatric units as needed. Weekend rotation will be required, including 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend. Travelers must work holidays as scheduled, including the eve or day of holidays and every other holiday while contracted. RTO requests will require manager approval, and extensive requests may necessitate an extended contract. Shift times are from 0645 to 1915 and 1845 to 0715, scheduled every 6 weeks based on unit needs. Dress code requires solid navy or white scrubs, with limits on jewelry and personal adornments.
