ROLE SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Accurately interviews patients and obtains or edits all required demographic information. Implements patient assistance based on age specific
requirements. Contacts interpreter for non-English speaking patients.
2. Verifies with patient complete mailing address (house #, apt #, street name, city, state, zip code) and correct spelling of address.
3. Completes registrations timely, following procedures on “problem orders”.
4. Obtains patient signatures for consent for treatment, notice of privacy practice, financial assistance, appeal form pharmacy form (if applicable);
gives patient copy of forms.
5. Accurately enters insurance information. Obtains and scans copies of insurance cards, picture ID, and Physician Orders into system.
6. Informs patient of co-pays and deductibles due, collecting deposit on account. Completes collection fields in Star, documenting reasons for noncollect.
7. Obtains UB92 information, entering Occurrence Code, Occurrence Span and Condition Code in computer (onset of illness and accident codes).
8. Identifies appropriate accident accounts and files “accident in house liens” appropriately.
9. Verifies RTE on Medicare to ensure Medicare eligibility dates for part A and B, checks for HMO and third party liability. Scans verification into
scanning system.
10. Verifies procedures and diagnosis codes in Omega on Medicare patients presenting for outpatient services. Completes ABN (Advance Beneficiary
Notice), obtains patient signature and explains to patient his/her responsibility for services provided. If patient refuses, clerk notifies physician to
inquire for additional charted diagnosis codes and obtains correct Physician Order. Scans waiver in system if patient decided to have services.
11. Verifies Worker’s Compensation obtaining employer name, address, phone number and contact name, entering information into the computer.
Notifies insurance clerk of any follow up needed for an add-on patient.
12. Accurately registers patients according to the correct “Patient Type,” referring to physician orders, daily schedules or calling department for
clarification.
13. Obtains complete physician order with procedure, diagnosis and physician signature at time of registration. If verbal order, follows up with
physician, scanning complete order in a timely manner.
14. Enters notes in computer on each patient. Notes should include if required forms completed and signed or any pertinent information obtained
that may be helpful for follow up.
15. Accurately completes daily deposit, counts/balances cash box and records any overage/shortage on deposit slip. Makes appropriate copies of
deposit slip and credit card slip and has deposit delivered to appropriate area. Keeps money box secure in appropriate safe/locked drawer.
16. Obtains faxes from fax machine/fax tray, filing physician orders in appropriate filing drawer and responding timely.
17. Completes telephone pre-admits to establish account number and insurance information for pre-authorizations required on certain procedures.
18. Attends mandatory meetings required by the Registration Department, Fiscal Services or Floyd Medical Center.
19. Completes other duties as assigned.

Frequent exposure to communicable disease, bodily fluids and tissue, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other
conditions common to a clinical environment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for
extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries weight up to 50 pounds. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with vision
and hearing within normal range to respond to Code alerts and equipment alarms. Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints with
irregular working hours.
