Operations Supervisor

Old Dominion Freight Line is currently recruiting for an Operations Supervisor. The role is central to keeping operations running smoothly, leading a dedicated team, and ensuring safety, efficiency, and service quality. Responsibilities Monitor and evaluate safety of each employee daily; train on safety processes as needed. Monitor and evaluate safe and efficient planning, loading, and unloading of freight throughout the shift. Monitor, evaluate, and teach employees safe lifting techniques; use safe lifting when required. Maintain housekeeping within the shift to ensure safety and productivity. Manage, assign, and supervise pickups and deliveries to employees to ensure proper utilization and development. Work closely with Service Center management to align daily/weekly/monthly/yearly objectives. Provide instruction, analysis, and suggestions for operational improvement across shift, department, and facility. Give positive and constructive feedback on metrics (ROI, MPH, stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, delivery/pick up errors, overall productivity). Conduct daily inspections for compliance with local state, federal safety regulations, OSHA, and DOT compliance. Ensure 100% of trailers are loaded correctly to safely transport freight. Strive for continuous improvement in all service center operations. Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS and any other freight monitoring systems. Complete forklift job training and use a forklift as necessary. Conduct daily shift meetings; make decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedule to employees. Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation; correct any improper conditions. Ensure compliance with company and government regulations. Work assigned shift(s) as needed, including availability for customer pick up and delivery schedules. Use OD’s proprietary technology for monitoring shipment locations; communicate with associates and customers. Complete company and government shipping forms (shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, ITMs, exception forms). Responsible for staff within department, including hiring and disciplinary action. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred. 2 years of experience in operations, preferably in transportation. Supervisory experience preferred. Working knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office. Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Compensation Salary range: $77,576 - $96,970, based on geographic location, experience, market conditions, education/training, skill level, and state/local wage requirements.
