Job DetailsJob Location: Village Campus - Mamaroneck, NY 10543Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 Salary/yearPosition Summary Position Summary The Dean of Students - Middle School is responsible for student discipline, behavior support, and the overall culture and climate of the Middle School division. The Dean serves as a key point of contact for students, families, and faculty on matters of conduct, social-emotional wellbeing, and community expectations, working closely with the Division Head, School Counselor, and teaching staff to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive bilingual learning environment. The Dean works within the framework and priorities established by the Head of Middle School. Given FASNY's bilingual program, the Dean must be able to communicate fluently and confidently with students and families in both French and English, as a meaningful portion of the school community is more comfortable in one language than the other. Key Responsibilities Student Culture & Discipline Oversee day-to-day student behavior management, including investigating incidents, determining appropriate consequences, and following up with students, families, and staff Maintain consistent, developmentally appropriate disciplinary practices aligned with the Student/Family Handbook Track and document behavioral incidents; identify patterns and recommend proactive interventions Partner with the School Counselor on students requiring additional social-emotional support Community & Culture Building Champion a positive, inclusive Middle School culture consistent with FASNY's bilingual, bicultural mission Coordinate student leadership programs, support the advisory program, and lead community-building initiatives Support student behavior and safety during Middle School events, assemblies, and trips Family & Faculty Communication Communicate clearly and empathetically with families in French and/or English depending on family preference, both verbally and in writing Serve as a liaison between families and the Division Head on behavioral and disciplinary matters Collaborate with teachers and advisors to support consistent expectations across classrooms Compliance & Safeguarding Ensure disciplinary practices comply with school policy and applicable NYS regulations Support mandatory reporting obligations and safeguarding protocols as needed Maintain accurate, confidential student records related to conduct and interventions Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Education, School Counseling, or related field preferred Minimum 3–5 years of experience in middle school education Ability to teach across multiple middle school subject areas as needed Full professional fluency in both French and English required, spoken and written; ability to communicate effectively with students and families regardless of their dominant language Strong understanding of adolescent development and restorative/positive discipline approaches Excellent interpersonal, conflict-resolution, and written communication skills in both languages Experience in an independent, international, or bilingual school setting strongly preferred Familiarity with French educational culture/system a plus Key Attributes Calm, fair, and consistent under pressure Warm but firm with students; builds trust easily across cultures and languages Highly organized, discreet, and comfortable handling sensitive/confidential matters Collaborative team player who partners well with faculty, counseling, and administration FASNY provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
